Taliban using rocket launchers to detain people in Kabul
Armed with rocket-propelled grenade launchers and machine guns – this is the moment the Taliban detained a man in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The footage shows Taliban fighters pointing grenade launchers at a man as he kneels on the ground against a building, surrounded by militants.
There are no details about what the man is being detained for, but the footage is a stark contrast to the Taliban’s promise of a new era of peace in Afghanistan.
Since taking over the country on Sunday, the Taliban has sought to portray itself as more moderate than when it imposed a strict form of Islamic rule in the late 1990s. But many Afghans remain skeptical – and thousands are desperate to flee the country.
On Friday, two alleged looters were paraded through the streets with black makeup smeared on their faces, reminders of the unsparing version of Islamic law the Taliban has imposed.
