The United States’ case is offensive – Stella Assange
Stella Assange has claimed that judges were 'not convinced' by the prosecution's attempt to 'paint lipstick on a pig', as UK High Court granted Julian Assange right to appeal his potential extradition to the U.S.
‘The United States’s case offends our democratic principles, it offends our right to know, it is an attack on journalists everywhere’, the WikiLeaks wife added, asking 'how long can this go on for?’

DR Congo army says it thwarted attempted coup involving US citizens
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) army announced it has stopped an attempted coup against the country’s president Felix Tshisekedi, killing the coup leader and arresting some 50 people, including three American citizens.
The video circulating online shows two culprits, who are thought to be Americans, begging for mercy as they were surrounded by government forces following a shootout in the capital Kinshasa.
Reports in local media suggested the arrested men were CIA operatives although the US attempted to distance itself from any involvement:
‘I am shocked by the events this morning and very worried by the reports of American citizens allegedly being involved. Rest assured that we are cooperating with authorities in DRC to the fullest extent possible, as they investigate these criminal acts and hold accountable any American citizen involved,’ the US ambassador to the DRC, Lucy Tamlyn, posted on X.

Trans runner booed after winning girls’ 200m race
A male-born runner was heavily booed and jeered after winning the girls’ 200m state title in Oregon. Aayden Gallagher was filmed crossing the finish line ahead of the female athletes, and was met with loud boos and jeers from the crowd. Boos could also be heard as Gallagher stood on the podium alongside five girls.
Gallagher’s participation in female events has been heavily criticized, with lawmakers calling for a change to the rules after the athlete won a previous 400m race. Currently, Oregon allows athletes to participate in the category which ‘aligns with their gender identity’ without the need to provide evidence of a medical transition.
Footage of the race was also shared by women’s rights campaigner Riley Gaines, who argued that the girl who finished second in the 200-meter race was the rightful winner of the state championship.

ICYMI: Mass brawl breaks out in Taiwan parliament
Taiwan’s parliament descended into chaos last Friday, as lawmakers clashed over proposed reforms to the chamber ahead of President-elect Lai Ching-te’s inauguration.
Footage shows what looks to be a free-for-all scuffle, with the inclusion of a few bits of furniture for good measure. Some lawmakers can be seen throwing water at their opponents, others appeared to be stage-diving, while one politician is removed from the room on a stretcher – such is the nature of political debate.
The brawl reportedly involved members of all three main parties, which means they might at least be able to bond over the experience.

Ukrainian truckers protest against mobilization law
Ukrainian truckers staged a protest against new mobilization laws on Saturday by blocking a key highway between Kiev and Odessa. The new laws, effective from May 18, allow drivers to be drafted into the military when they return from abroad. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky justified the measure by citing the ‘need to staff the reserves,’ and continue the ‘normal rotation’ of troops.
