In this episode of the Route 66 Adventure we wind up the St. Claire shoot with Thomas Parks hanging out in front of his Ace Hardware Store where he told us about the 1928 route 66 foot race from California to Chicago and then to NYC. Next is one of my favorite shoots that occurred in Staunton MO. We met Leo and Ed Thurmond at the church located at Ave W and Line Street. Here Leo told us some funny Route 66 stories and they sang a song called "I'll be good".

In this episode of the Route 66 Adventure we stopped by Ted Drewes Frozen Custard where I tried their sundae, and it was GOOD! From there we drove further than usual in the series with the destination of St. Claire. St Clair is small town that is big on Route 66. We met up with Tito and Nina who shared their Route 66 love story. We heard a few love storied on the old road. Then Patsy Stark sings a St. Claire song for us.. Many landmarks now house businesses or private residences that are different than what the buildings were originally proposed, and this is true for the Pierce Window and Door as owner Scott Pierce explains. Gold Key Realtors owner Archie Schaeg tells us a similar story. Melody met us outside of precision rebuilders to share her Route 66 story.

In this episode of the Route 66 Adventure we conclude Lexington and filmed the many Route 66 spurs. A spur is an old alignment that leads to a dead end, and these were created every time they created a more direct route. In Bloomington we visited their museum, run by Jeff Woodard, and spoke to an early old road cop, Chester Di Henry, who shared his story on the witness stand. From there we went to Atlanta Ill where the mayor, William Thomas, gave me the opportunity to be the keeper of the clock for one day.

In this episode of the Route 66 Adventure we filmed the Chain of Rocks Bridge that was opened by the city for this production. So thank you city of Madison! At one time they wanted to dismantle the bridge and sell the metal, but there was no profit in it. From the bridge we took the older alignment that started from that bridge on the Missouri side to film the St. Louis Arch. This stretch of Route 66, from the bridge to the arch passes through some tough neighborhoods, so be alert. As we continued southwest we conclude this segment at the worlds largest Amoco sign.
