Sparkle Life Animals

Emily is a Welsh Saxony that came to Sparkle Life with her sister, Victoria. Both 3 years old, they laid eggs together and then seemed sorted out that Emily would be the one that sits. Originally we found them both fussing about with 22 eggs...lol We take efforts to avoid nesting. We feel that if we have room for more, we want to take in ducks in need of a gentle forever home. However, sometimes if they are sneaky enough to get away with laying a huge nest and keeping it hid - when it's discovered 'in process' we let them enjoy their natural drive and grow the flock. After checking through and sorting out which were most likely underway - Emily was relocated to a better nest and settled in to a safe area, in her own, built-for-her brand new house, with everything she needs to grow the possible 14 babies. One has now hatched, and after checking one egg there is movement inside, so the others are hopefully coming soon! The dad's may be one of the 4 Runner drakes, one of the 2 Call duck or Gus - the male Saxony.

Meet Gus! Gus is a Saxony and will be 6yrs in June. He came to Sparkle Life Sanctuary a year ago. He's from a farm that treats their animals very well, where he free roamed in a healthy and active flock. The farm spared his fate of being processed into dog food and instead he will live his life out here on the pond. He's a sweet old guy, that naps a lot, lumbers around the yard and is generally, pretty chill. One of the new runner ducks, Patrick, is 8 months, and has decided to challenge Gus' place as leader of the flock. We've been breaking up the fighting on a frequent basis, but a few days ago, Patrick obviously got Gus in the eye and is now in the time out enclosure, and sleeping solo in a different duck house. Gus is coming in for hot compresses, snacks and antibiotics a few times a day. Stay tuned!

When Wylee is with his favorite person, he snuggles in and has the cutest naps!

It's likely this won't work... but we're going to give it a shot! Coconut and Wylee are friends. Coconut and Brave are bonded. It would sure be nice if these three could live together as a trio... Not sure Brave is interested...lol. Stay tuned!

Wylee the bunny has been going outside regularly and as his confidence grows, so does his attitude..lol I planned on sharing a cute, quick video of getting him ready and playing outside, but it turned into a full blown power struggle today. So here is some rabbit attitude in all it's glory. It's so wonderful to see his personality shine through more and more as the weeks go on. The Sparkle Life ducks gobble breakfast like they've never been fed and then run to the pond like they've never been on water... every morning.

The scrambling that ensues the moment they hear the magic word...

Time to refill the hay feeders and Brave is eating before I even get the chance...

Brave and Coconut found the left over apples...

It happened! Wylee is back on grass, digging holes, eating weeds and having adventures on the daily!

We can see Wylee wants outside, but he's not healthy enough to release. It has been more than a week of the harness battle.

Summer and fall meals are full of garden veggies for Sparkle Life Sanctuary bunnies. When they came us as itty bitty sibling babies, Brave had tooth problems and Coconut had eye problems. Now, just over a year old, they are both healthy and loving life. Mostly loving breakfasts.

Wylee is enjoying his morning routine of fresh veggies each day. It's a great way to get him running a few lengths of the room as well. He's getting better all the time - he's doing great!

It's breakfast time for the Sparkle Life Animal Sanctuary ducks! Lucy the mama duck has to help her four gangly teenage ducks get out of the house each morning... they just haven't figured out that darn flap yet....lol

This is a roller-coaster.... seriously. The last 2 months this Bun has caused such joy, such serious concern, and so much love. He's great, he's struggling, he's doing better, he's getting worse, he's going to be fine.... ugh. We've seemed to hit a wall this past week. We've gone back to the carpet. Once he developed some stability, the vinyl was ideal to build his strength. Currently, we need him on the safest surface possible - which is carpet. So back we go.... With renewed prescriptions and additional medications, in just a few days, we have see some turn around. It'll still be a while before he gets back to were he was - but it's looking positive!
