What is Spiritual Abuse?
Spiritual Abuse is quite an insidious form of coercive control as it is often carried out by a person in a position of 'moral or religious superiority', or someone the victims admire and look to for guidance and support. The abuse is often carried out whilst claiming to be either for the victim's 'own good', or for the greater good. It is sometimes referred to a Religious abuse, but is not exclusive to a religious setting or by religious people. Spiritual abuse can happen in relationships, families, the workplace, or the community. It can also happen in political or ideological movements and cults.
In this video Darren Magee outlines what spiritual abuse is and lists common signs and examples of it, as well as looking at the impact it can have on someone.

What is the Straw Man Fallacy? - and how to handle it
A Straw man argument is the term given when someone takes something you say and twists it, distorts it and phrases it back exaggerating your original point completely out of context. It is a form of gaslighting and can be a powerful tactic to misrepresent and derail any conversation as you are now focusing on what they claim you said rather than what you actually said. It can also be quite affective at making someone look crazy as people tend to get defensive when being dramatically misrepresented.
In this video Darren Magee outlines some common 'straw manning' tactics and phrases, and looks at some of the kinds of people who use this tactic and their different reasons. Also looking at different examples of straw man arguments, and ways to handle these kinds of conversations.

Seven ways narcissists make victims look like the villain
Many victims of narcissistic abuse are often left wondering why no one believes what they've been through. Some even question themselves if they were indeed the problem. Through blame shifting, gaslighting and projection many narcissistic people try to convince their victims and others into believing they were innocent the whole time, they are actually the victim.
In this video Darren Magee outlines seven common behaviours and phrases narcissists use to grind down their victims self confidence, self esteem, reputation and character. Wear down their resolve and question their own reality by twisting and exaggerating situations, and blaming their victim by focusing on their reactions as the problem, rather than what they have done to provoke the reaction.

Gaslighting - Emotional and Psychological Manipulation
Gaslighting is not just lying but a form of psychological and emotional manipulation. It is a tactic commonly used by narcissists to abuse and manipulate someone into questioning their own sense of reality, their values, memories and integrity. The aim is to have victims believe their thoughts, feelings and experiences aren't valid.
The abuser tells their victim a version of reality, what to believe and what not to believe through a process of lies and manipulation. Because many abusers can be very intelligent and have had a long time to practice their skills, the victims often questions their own thoughts, experiences and may think that they are crazy.

The Dark Personality of Internet Trolls
An Internet troll, sometimes referred to as a cyber bully, is someone who spends time on social media and online networking sites trying to draw other people into contentious, uncivil and sometimes utterly pointless conversations.
Many hide anonymously behind their computers, phones and tablets or may even use fake accounts to cause misery for others through their comments and remarks.
In the second video in this series Darren Magee looks at the research into the personality types of people who troll others online, from the nuisance to the sadistic.
Research has shown people with dark personality types such as the Dark Triad, and Schadenfreude (sadism) are more likely to engage in online trolling. This could also be described as The Dark Tetrad, subclinical elements of psychopathy, narcissism, machiavellianism and sadism.
Further research into online trolling has found a link between loneliness and aggression.
