Come adventure with me as I solo camp at Tennessee State Parks. During this camping trip I stayed at Frozen Head State Park campground and Rock Island State Park tent only campground. I started my solo camping adventure with a short hike at Frozen Head State Park, before heading to the Center Hill Lake area of Tennessee to paddle board to Burgess Falls. Adventure with me as I solo hike from Lost Creek to Virgin Falls, located within Lost Creek State Natural Area, Tennessee. Virgin Falls is an absolutely stunning waterfall, I was surprised at how big it actually is. I love waterfall hikes, and this may be my new favorite waterfall in Tennessee. Along the trail I saw many toads, mushrooms, and even a baby snake! The Lost Creek State Natural Area is a beautiful region, and I can't wait to come back to hike more trails. This summer I went paddle boarding to Burgess Falls in Tennessee, and as I got close the water was too low to continue, my middle fin kept hitting rocks.

This October I went hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see some of the beautiful fall foliage. I hiked Big Creek Trail to Mouse Creek Falls, and beyond, to the junction with Camel Gap Trail. Mouse Creek Falls completed one more waterfall for the Carolina Mountain Club's 100 Waterfall Challenge, and the additional mileage helps me work towards my Smoky Mountains 900 Miler Challenge. The Smokies are a great area for an autumn hike, thanks to the fall foliage, and variety of trails in the park. Short video from the river while hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in order to see some fall foliage. This is on the way to Mouse Creek Falls, on the North Carolina side of the Smokies, and it was showing off some great fall leaves.

I went stand up paddle boarding at Meads Quarry Lake (part of Ijams Nature Center) with the goal of finding freshwater jellyfish. There is one species of freshwater jellyfish in the world, and they have been spotted at Meads Quarry before, but unfortunately I was unsuccessful. Meads Quarry Lake is private property, so you're not able to bring your own paddle boards, River Sports Outfitters is onsite to rent paddle boards, kayaks, and canoes. I personally rented the Badfish Monarch Inflatable Paddle Board, and loved it. Meads Quarry Lake is located just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, and is a rather popular place for paddle boarding and kayaking in the summer. We went off the beaten path in Yosemite National Park to find a spot that wasn't crowded. We were able to find this little pool that was a great spot to cool our feet.

Crankfest is a women's mountain bike festival put on by Cranksisters, at Ride Kanuga Bike Park in Hendersonville North Carolina (just south of Asheville). Friday morning started out with a group ride down Evergreen (Kanuga's green downhill trail), and Friday afternoon I did a free workshop with Pisgah Area Sorba, in which we rode High Rocks Climb and Evergreen, and talked about trail maintenance. Saturday morning I solo, so that I could check out First in Flight (Kanuga's green jump trail) and the green jump line next to the adventure center. Saturday afternoon I attended a cornering clinic where we did laps of First in Flight, then participated in Crankfest's Jump Jam. Sunday I was feeling pretty sore and tired so I just did some yoga and laps on the green jump line, then attended a free workshop on saddles. Come explore Hontoon Island State Park with me! While hiking this Florida State Park we saw a lot of wildlife, including spiders, huge snail shells, dusky pygmy rattlesnakes, dung beetles, limpkins, and more.

If you love birds I highly recommend visiting Parrot Mountain and Gardens in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Parrot Mountain is a great thing to do while visiting the Smoky Mountains/Gatlinburg/Sevierville area.

Here's a look at what I typically eat in a day while camping. Everything I ate on this camping trip was either vegetarian or vegan. I was car camping on this trip, so I was fortunately able to bring some fresh fruits and vegetables to snack on and use for meals. Getting in fresh foods can be difficult, especially while camping, but I'm trying to focus on eating more whole foods. For the vegetarian things I ate this day, vegan swaps would be fairly easy to find (ex. vegan chocolate chips vs milk chocolate chips).
