Hack a Baby Toy, Save Money on Batteries | DIY Professional #1
https://www.facebook.com/GarageScience/
You will never have to buy batteries for your baby toys with this easy hack. If you want to see a DIY project or hack on something else let me know in the comments.
This was done on my kids vibrating seat because I was sick of having to pay for expense C cell batteries. I used items I already had so it was free. If you follow this hack you will be able to use batteries or the phone charger.

Finish the 3D Printed Part, How to Guide Step 3 | 3D Facture Draken 3D Printer
https://www.facebook.com/GarageScience/
This "How to Guide" will show you how to prepare a CAD model to be printed on a DLP/SLA resin 3D printer. The printer I use is a Draken made by 3Dfacture. I used Autodesk Fusion 360, Autodesk Meshmixer and Creation Workshop to prepare this model. All these programs are free to download and use.
Digital Light Processing Stereo-lithographic 3D printers are very good at creating high resolution prints. In many ways they are easier to use than their counterpart FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D Printers because the XYZ axes are easier to calibrate. We will be taking the 3D printed part from the printer and performing the post print processing of that print to get the final product. This will include bathing the part in isopropyl alcohol, curing it in a UV light oven and cutting off the support structures.

Prepare a CAD Model to 3D Print, How to Guide Step 1 | 3D Facture Draken 3D Printer

We will be taking the CAD file, converting it to an STL file, we'll then add supports to that STL file and then slice and save it as a CWS file.

3D Printed AR 15 Lower Receiver TimeLapse | 3D Facture Draken 3D Printer
https://www.facebook.com/GarageScience/
If there is something you want to see printed, leave a link to it in the comments and I'll print it when feasible and post a timelapse.
This is a 2:3 scale print of an AR-15 Lower Receiver. Printed in Fun to Do, Deep Black, Standard Blend. It was sliced with Creation Workshop and printed on my Draken 3D printer using Creation Workshop Host. The front of the model detached from the supports and caused the front of the model to be deformed. Still a good timelapse showing a large object getting pulled out of a vat of resin 1/4 inch deep.
The hype around 3D printed firearms has died down and Cody Wilson is out of the media spotlight. But much like how things went before anyone ever heard of Cody Wilson, defense distributed, ghost gunner or the Liberator people were still making their own guns. This is in that spirit but on a 2:3 scale. Eventually I will likely print an AR-15 lower reciever full scale but at that point it is considered a firearm by the ATF and I'm not willing to deal with keeping track of that print right now.

DLP resin 3D printers like this work by using an HD projector installed under the resin tank to cure a very thin layer of resin. The initial layers become stuck to the build plate and the subsequent layers to the part. By using hundreds or thousands of layers the final part is printed. This video shows the hours it took to cure over a thousand layers in just a couple of minutes. I used a Go Pro Hero4 silver to shoot this video using the time lapse feature. Enjoy!

3D Printed Darth Vader Buddha TimeLapse Resin DLP/SLA Printer | 3D Facture Draken 3D Printer
If there is something you want to see printed, leave a link to it in the comments and I'll print it when feasible and post a timelapse.
Darth Vader Buddha Figurine printed on a DLP/SLA resin printer from 3Dfacture. Fun to Do, Black, Standard Blend resin was used. 20 Base layers cured for 24s and all other layers cured for 12s. Slicer used was creation workshop. A Raspberry Pi was used to run the printer independently from my laptop.

In the spirit of Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens I decided to get super nerdy and print a darth vader figurine. Even though the bad guy is Kylo Ren, Darth Vader's helmet still makes a cameo appearance.
I pulled this object from Thingiverse and hollowed it with Autodesk Meshmixer. Hollowing it helped conserve resin and also ensured the part did not detach from the build plate.

How a Resin DLP 3D Printer / SLA 3D Printer Works | See How It Works
Light Processing and SLA stands for Stereolithography. DLP 3D Printing is a subset or type of SLA 3D Printing.
Before making a DIY SLA 3D Printer or DIY DLP 3D Printer or any DIY 3D Printer this How To video is a much watch, make sure you share with your friends. We gotta share the knowledge on using UV resin to make awesome, precise and detailed 3D parts.
DLP is a projection method developed by TI (Texas Instruments) that uses a DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) that is made of hundreds of thousands of individual microscopic mirrors that create the pixels in the projected image. A color wheel spins in front of the output beam of light to control color. The RGB color bands can be seen in one of the clips of this video because of the frame rate in the camera.
The output light from the DLP projector ranges into the UV spectrum and is strong enough to cure the photosensitive resin. I used Fun to Do Standard Blend Deep Black resin in this video. This photopolymer resin has provided exceptionally good results for me.
Hopefully this video answered your question of how does a 3D printer work?
The video titled "What Is 3D Printing and How Does It Work? | Mashable Explains" (https://youtu.be/Vx0Z6LplaMU) inspired me to make a video specifically addressing the question of "how does a 3D printer work" for SLA 3D printing. I hope my attempt at a how to video about additive manufacturing titled "How a Resin DLP 3D Printer/SLA 3D Printer Works | See How It Works" answered the question.
The video titled "DLP Projector Stereolithography 3D Printer" by engineerguy (https://youtu.be/97ARLiTHjX0) also covers this topic very well and is demonstrated using the Autodesk Ember 3D Printer.
The principles shown in this video also apply to a homemade DLP 3D Printer like the one shown in the video titled "3D Printer - High Resolution - Homemade - DIY" (https://youtu.be/snOErpOP5Xk) so whether you're doing a diy experiment with 3d printers or not this video tutorial should be of some help.

3D Printed Tea Light Holder Timelapse | 3D Facture Draken 3D Printer
This is a "Hidden Heart" tea light holder due to the heart shapes created by the cross sections during the print. This was designed with Autodesk fusion in about 15min and sliced with Creation Workshop. It was printed on my Draken 3D printer from 3Dfacture using Fun to Do Deep Black Standard Blend resin.
#garagescience #3dprintertimelapse #diyprofessional
The results were quite impressive considering the little amount of design effort.
DLP 3D printers are a subset of SLA or stereolithography printers that use a High Definition Projector that utilizes a DMD chip along with a halogen lamp to create very detailed cross section images. These images are used to print 3D objects from photosensitive resin layer by layer.
If you want to see more about how these printers work you can watch this video overview:

If there is something you want to see printed, leave a link to it in the comments and I'll print it when feasible and post a timelapse.
