Al Capone's Armor Plated Car
After the attempted hits on Capone, mostly by the Northside Gang, in revenge for Dean O'Banion's murder, Capone began to take his security seriously. Al Capone's car, a 1928 Cadillac Model 341A Town Sedan, had a Police siren, bulletproof glass, and police radio.

The White Hand Gang - Murder on the Brooklyn Docks (Part 4)
The End of the White Hand Gang (1925 - 1931)
In this fourth and final video, part four, I will take an in-depth look at what happened to the gang after the death of Richard "Peg Leg" Lonergan, who died at the Adonis Social Club on Christmas night in 1925.
Lonergan assumed control of the gang after "Wild" Bill Lovett's death, due to him being Lovett's friend and brother in law, his death created a vacuum in the leadership.
Traditionally, it was thought and written about that there was a battle for control of Brooklyn's docks and rackets between the Irish and Italians, that the Italians won and wiped out the Irish gangs on the docks.
Its said that after the death of "Peg Leg" Lonergan the gang faded away into history. But nothing could be further from the truth, in fact the gang war only intensified for the battle of leadership with the body count rising to equal of the body count in the days of Meehan, Lovett and Lonergan.
Another rumor that has turned out not to be true was that Eddie Lynch had set up and double crossed "Peg Leg" Lonergan leading to his death, however based on research, Eddie Lynch had been in prison since 1922 and released in 1927, missing out on both the deaths of Lovett (1923) and Lonergan (1925)
A point to note is that the newspaper mention that Eddie Martin was murdered and that he was Matty Martin's brother, that is wrong, Eddie Martin is actually Eddie McGuire, McGuire and Matty Martin were not related.
Further research has brought to light the rivalry between the Irish and Italians was pretty much fiction and sensationalized. The truth may not be as sensational and less dramatic. In every case, except for one, gangsters with Irish names were arrested for the murders of other gangsters, apart for Lonergan's murder.
The White Hand Gang was in fact a collection of smaller gangs under one umbrella, the main factions being the Warren Street Red Onion Gang and the Jay Street Gang, who fought among themselves for control of the rackets and docks.
It would be helpful if you could leave some feedback if you find it useful or if I have left anything out. Or leave your thoughts in the comments below.
As the Brooklyn Irish community was notoriously secretive about talking to authority, it made it difficult to piece this together. I have tried to gather as many newspaper clippings and articles in order to shed some light on the subject. Some photos have been used for informational purposes.

The White Hand Gang - Murder on the Brooklyn Docks (Part 3)
Peg Leg
In this video, part three, I will take an in-depth Look at Richard "Peg Leg" Lonergan, leading up to Lonergan's death in the Adonis Social Club, where his body was found, along with one of his men.
Lonergan assumed control of the gang after "Wild" Bill Lovett's death, due to him being Lovett's friend and brother in law
Traditionally, it was thought and written about that there was a battle for control of Brooklyn's docks and rackets between the Irish and Italians, that the Italians won and wiped out the Irish gangs on the docks.
One popular theory is that Lonergan was a bigot and had chased away some Irish women, who were with Italian men, from the Adonis Social Club, shouting racial slurs at the Italians and thats when the gunfire started. And Al Capone was one of those present.
And while it may be true that Lonergan was a bigot and hated the Italians, further research suggests that that series of events may not have happened, two eyewitnesses never reported that incident taking place before the shooting started or that Al Capone was present at the time, even though he would be arrested for the incident.
Further research has brought to light the rivalry between the Irish and Italians was pretty much fiction and sensationalized. The truth may not be as sensational and less dramatic.
The White Hand Gang was in fact a collection of smaller gangs under one umbrella, the main factions being the Warren Street Red Onion Gang and the Jay Street Gang, who fought among themselves for control of the rackets and docks.

The Untold Story of the Diamond Brothers Gang (Part 2) #legsdiamond #luckyluciano #fattywalsh
Legs Diamond - Fatty Walsh - Lucky Luciano
Jack "Legs" Diamond, a notorious mobster during Prohibition, rose to infamy as a prominent figure in American organized crime. Born in Philadelphia, he later moved to New York.
Diamond mentored younger mobsters like Lucky Luciano and Dutch Schultz but was infamous for double-crossing partners and hijacking their booze shipments.
Surviving multiple assassination attempts, he earned the nickname "The Clay Pigeon of the Underworld."
The photo captured Diamond before his surrender to police for questioning following a shooting at the Hotsy Totsy Club, which he co-owned. The club incident led to a series of retaliatory murders. Diamond's criminal career ended when he was shot and killed in 1931. His funeral was sparsely attended due to his treacherous reputation.
Similarly, his wife Alice Kenny Diamond was murdered after his death. Other figures linked to Diamond, like Fatty Walsh, met violent ends as well.
Lucky Luciano, despite surviving a kidnapping attempt, went on to shape modern organized crime and establish the Luciano Family, later known as the Genovese Family, before his imprisonment and eventual exile in Italy.

The Untold Story of the Diamond Brothers Gang - Part One
Intro Rothstein Eddie Diamond
In 1926, a photograph captured four notorious mobsters known as the Diamond Brothers gang, led by Jack "Legs" Diamond and including his brother Eddie, Thomas "Fatty" Walsh, and Salvatore "Lucky" Luciano. These individuals had significant influence in New York's criminal underworld, they had connections to Arnold Rothstein, a prominent crime figure during the 1920's
The photo was taken during a police lineup following an attempted robbery. Despite their notoriety, the gang faced conflicts, assassination attempts, and legal troubles. Eddie Diamond, in particular, led a tumultuous life marked by crime and illness, ultimately dying of tuberculosis in 1930.

The White Hand Gang - Murder on the Brooklyn Docks (Part 2)
The Fall of "Wild" Bill Lovett, the second part of a deep dive into the White Hand Gang
In this video, part two, I will have a look at "Wild" Bill Lovett, leading up to Lovett's death in 25 Bridge Street, where his body was found. The battle between the factions of the White Hand Gang heated up in the months leading to Bills death
Traditionally, it was thought and written about that there was a battle for control of Brooklyn's docks and rackets between the Irish and Italians, that the Italians won and wiped out the Irish gangs on the docks.
On theory is that Vincenzo Antonio Gibaldi better known as "Machine Gun" Jack McGurn killed Lovett in his sleep, another says that mobsters loyal to Frankie Yale were behind it. The truth however is that it was someone from within Lovetts own gang that was the killer.
However, in recent years further research has brought to light that it was pretty much fiction and sensationalized. The truth may not be as sensational and less dramatic.
The White Hand Gang was in fact a collection of smaller gangs under one umbrella, the main factions being the Warren Street Red Onion Gang and the Jay Street Gang, who fought among themselves for control of the rackets and docks.
A couple of points to note:
The newspapers call Frank Byrnes by different names Byrnes / Byrne / Burns, they are all the one person.
Sometimes they refer to Richard and Anna Lonergan as Lanigan
They give two different dates for the murder of Eddie Hughes 2nd / 3rd of May. The 3rd of May is the correct date
It would be helpful if you could leave some feedback if you find it useful or if I have left anything out. Or leave your thoughts in the comments below.

In this video, part one, I will have a look at its most famous leaders, Dennis "Dinny" Meehan and "Wild" Bill Lovett, leading up to Lovett taking control of the gang.
As this is my first attempt at making this kind of video, it would be helpful if you could leave some feedback if you find it useful or if I have left anything out.
