Carolina Blue on Screen:
If you notice different blues from our graphics versus the broadcaster's graphics on the screen note this. North Carolina athletics, my love, has had color durability and consistency issues from a marketing perspective for years. We use Nike’s version of Carolina Blue, hex code 85ADEA for all UNC video content on this channel because it matches the uniforms, shoes, court, etc. You will notice ESPN and indeed other media outlets use the branding standard hex code 7BAFD4 the Tar Heels publish but it does not match virtually anything other than Carolin's marketing guide and the basket supports in the Smith Center. The discrepancies you see with the content on this channel are not my own but North Carolina’s inability to commit to one blue. We will remain consistent with the 85ADEA color for matching purposes.

03.02.2024 Carolina v State (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
It's the penultimate home game of the 2023-2024 men's basketball season against none other than classic ACC foe NC State. Holding onto a 1 game lead in the ACC regular season standings over dook, the Heels need to hold serve at home to stay in front. With few exceptions in the last sixty years, Carolina has dominated State and the outcome of this game would yield nothing different. Perhaps not a foregone conclusion at any particular point on the scoreboard, once the Heels recovered from an 8-point halftime deficit and took the lead in the second half, the game never felt in doubt. The feeling inside the Smith Center once the Heels took back the lead was that the game was over and the frustration of that fact caused the NS State players to boil over.

02.26.2024 Carolina v Miami (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions & RJ Davis Extended Chat)
All season-long RJ Davis has been a force to reckon with for Tar Heel opponents. His off-season work and dedication have paid off and not only is he the front-runner for ACC Player of the Year, he's also in contention for the National Player of the Year.
Two days before Carolina was to face Miami, the Heels were in Charlottesville, VA where the sluggish pace of the Wahoos seemed to take RJ Davis out of rhythm and he shot just 1-14 from the floor. The casual viewer might be surprised to know how much that bothered the senior guard, but Tar Heel fans knew it all too well.
What fans didn't know as they piled into the Smith Center for a Big Monday matchup they were about to see the greatest offensive performance in the Dean E Smith Center's entire existence. Not Tyler Hansbrough (UNC & ACC all-time leading scorer), Antawn Jamison, Vince Carter, Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse, Harrison Barnes, or any other Tar Heel great had ever done what RJ Davis did during those two hours Monday, February 26, 2024.
Enjoy!

02.24.2024 Carolina @ Virginia (THSN Sync - FULL GAME CONDENSED)
Carolina playing UVa is an excuse for this channel to take a moment to rant. Native Content has nothing against UVa, but the talk, particularly in Tar Heel circles, is about how coveted Virginia is in conference realignment. I vehemently disagree. The catalyst for realignment is capturing television audiences, specifically football. UVa is not a national football brand, in fact in the ten competeed College Football Playoffs since January 2015, UVa would never have qualified even IF it began at the newly expanded twelve teams.
What's more UVa basketball under Tony Bennett is the most boring version of basketball imaginable. That style of play doesn't draw television viewership, just as their regional football program does not. UVa is not a national brand at this juncture in collegiate athletics, I'm sorry. Nothing personal.
As such there will only be a condensed version of this game available because the tempo and style Virginia forces is virtually unwatchable.

02.10.2024 Carolina @ Miami (THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
Sandwiched in between a great home win against archrival dook, the Heels suffered two losses; one in Atlanta to an enigmatic Georgia Tech team and another at home to Clemson for just the second time in the history of the world. Carolina looking to right the ship went to Coral Gables to play another head-scratching team in the Hurricanes. The Heels escaped with a victory on what wasn't a pretty win but not necessarily ugly either. The team Carolina faced in Miami was talented, hungry, on the tournament bubble, and on the hot seat with their coach. Not surprisingly they played as such and the Heels helped out the Canes a little also. Nonetheless, a win is a win.

11.29.2023 Carolina v Tennessee (THSN Sync - CONDENSED FULL GAME)
After a 5-1 start to the season, just who was this Tar Heel team? Following mostly positive but somewhat mixed results in three games in the Bahamas, the Heels came home for the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge. This time facing another Quad 1 team in Tennessee and a Volunteer squad hungry to get back to their winning ways. It was going to be important for this Carolina team to show what they got against a Rick Barnes-coached team that was sure to come ready to play.

02.03.2024 Carolina v dook (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
When February starts, so too does the final march to March. Heading into his sixth meeting against dook, Coach Hubert Davis was 2-3 against the crosstown rival. The two wins were quite notable mind you, but following a 2022-2023 season in which the Heels preseason #1 then missed the tournament altogether including two losses to the Blue Devils. Just days earlier ending the month of January, Carolina went to Atlanta and lost a nailbiter by a single point to Georgia Tech, making this game not only a rivalry game but also an important get-right game.
The Devils focused their attention on RJ Davis, determined to make someone else on Carolina beat them. The strategy failed miserably, Davis scored 17 and almost every Heel that touched the floor made meaningful contributions including 20+ point performances from both Harrison Ingram and Armando Bacot. The better team was North Carolina and the nine-point victory didn't really showcase how much better they played than their opponent.

04.02.2022 Carolina vs dook - Final Four Rat Retirement Party (THSN Sync + Postgame)
For the second time this particular basketball season, Carolina had an opportunity to completely spoil what dook, coach K, and the national media had planned for his send-off. A month earlier, the Heels beat the Blue Devils in their beloved coach's final home game of his career. Now in the second of two national semifinal games, the Hubert Davis lead Heels could host a retirement party for their crosstown rival.
This game features the play-by-play call by Jones Angell and color commentary from the late great Eric Montross who tragically passed away 20 months after this broadcast from complications with cancer.

The discrepancies you see with the content on this channel are not my own but North Carolina’s inability to commit to one blue. We will remain consistent with the 85ADEA color for matching purposes.

9.16.2023 Carolina v Minnesota (THSN Sync + Pregame)
The upload made of this sync on September 16th, 23 was corrupted and incomplete. This is the complete game that was not previously loaded but given the Heels will visit Minnesota next season, I thought it important to catalog this game in totality.

01.17.2024 Carolina v Louisville (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
Carolina Basketball has been on a roll. Coming off a complete blowout against Syracuse the Heels want to continue their winning ways. Already #4 in the nation, a win over Louisville would make Carolina 6-0 in the conference, 8-0 at home, and 7 consecutive wins. But it wouldn't be easy, after all, it's still ACC play despite the national media narrative.

Hey kids! Do you like whistles? This is the game for you. The Heels went on the road to Chestnut Hill looking for their 8th consecutive win, 15th overall, and to remain a perfect 7-0 in the ACC. While in MA, RJ Davis continued his scorching hot season plus Okonkwo and Ingram got mad at it with some nasty dunks.

01.10.2024 Carolina @ NC State (THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
Spoiler alert! The Tar Heels won this game.
The Heels are now (deep breath) 37-6 in the last 43 games against State. They are 54-13 in the last 32 seasons. Carolina is 19-6 against the Pack at PNC Arena and 23-6 in PNC Arena overall. The Heels have 165 wins against State all-time, the most in program history against any one opponent. If Carolina and State play twice per year for the next 42 years, and State wins every single one of those games…the Tar Heels will still have an edge in the all-time series.
Imagine what it would do to your mind if the Tar Heels were on the wrong end of those numbers in the series against Duke. And make no mistake, State supporters feel the same way about this series that Carolina fans feel about the Blue Devils. In the 39 Wolfpack home games at PNC Arena since Covid, they've had three sellouts. Two of them are against the Heels (the other is against Clemson). This is perhaps an appropriate time to remind you that Carolina sold out a December home game against Charleston Southern.
Now you understand why those students near the tunnel were so angry. By the time the Tar Heels left the court after the win, though, the students were gone. They'd been replaced by four fans in Tar Heel shirts and hats, high-fiving each player as they headed to the locker room.
Nearby stood a cow mascot from a chicken franchise, reminding everyone that they'd won a free chicken sandwich because Ingram was kind enough to miss two free throws late in an already-decided game.
Slight change in the dining plans for Thursday: the Pack will not need to cook. We're all going out for chicken.

Not since the 2015-2016 season, which ended at the National Championship game, had Carolina been 3-0 to start conference play. But with a win at Littlejohn over Clemson, the Tar Heels could do just that. It was an old-fashioned ACC matchup against a familiar foe with an old-school noon tip. And it wasn't without a touch of class from the folks at Clemson. We'll miss these days when the ACC as we know it is soon gone. Long live the ACC.

01.02.24 Carolina @ Pitt (THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
For whatever reason Pitt has had Carolina's number as of late. That number is not 25, but Pitt has won five of the last six against the Tar Heels. It wasn't quite an MMA fight, although physical to be sure, and yet following an extremely slow start a few of the Tar Heels were able to say "he's on fire" and get a big ACC road win to move to 2-0 in conference play.

12.29.23 Carolina v Charleston Southern (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
The 2023-2024 Tar Heels played a historically brutal non-conference schedule and were left with one final matchup before ACC play began in bulk. In a game against Charleston Southern, a team on paper Carolina would not struggle with, the off-court goings-on were seemingly equally important. It was this night, the first home game since his passing, that UNC would honor Tar Heel legend Eric Montross.

12.20.23 Carolina v Oklahoma (Eric Montross Tributes, THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
Whoever at the SEC came up with "It Just Means More" must have done so on the way home from Chapel Hill. It strikes at the heart of "What is it that binds us to this place as no other?" In the early morning hours of December 18th, 2023 Carolina grads and Tar Heel fans alike received the shocking news of the passing of Big Grits, Eric Montross, and for us, it meant more.
No, we aren't Laura or Eric's kids. And we aren't Jones and Adam his buddies that brought us the Big Grits moniker. Nor are we teammates like Coach Hubert Davis who sat in a somber locker room with Eric after a 73-80 loss to Ohio State to end a season. Or the teammates a year later that rushed a New Orleans floor in jubilation.
Who are we then?
We are the individuals for whom Eric Montross was someone you had a warm encounter with on Franklin. Or you shook his giant hand at a Rams Club event, called him "Big Grits," and watched him grin sheepishly about it. Perhaps like many of us, he was part of your household. No, not like his family. But 30+ afternoons/nights a year for 20ish years he's been a part of my household. All the above describes me. I did encounter Eric as a young camper on Franklin, and I did shake his hand at the Charlotte stop of the Tar Heel Tour in 2019 and watched him smile over my calling him Big Grits. And since I was a child, born in 1980, Tar Heel sports required the Tar Heel Sports Network. That means Woody, Mick, Jones, and yes Eric have been in my home quite a bit over the years.
So when Woody loses here on earth to complications from Aphasia and Eric to cancer, it means more to us. They are a part of our family even if they didn't always realize it. And yes, I know they did realize it.
It's the little things for us. We'll never hear Eric in our homes again. It seems he's already pulled from the UNC online directory so you can't even see him there if you wanted to pretend things were normal. Things are not normal. Life is short and fragile. So we have to ask ourselves what to do about that? I know I have few answers and lots of hopes. One of those hopes I never thought of until I received the dreadful text that December morning. And that is how much I hope the words "See ya later Big Grits" really do come true.

3.5.2022 Carolina @ dook (THSN Sync) A Coronation Spoiled
Thanks to Carolina Replays on YouTube for making this sync with THSN. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5iQobb7AcI&t=212s
In a predictable fashion, longtime head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski announced his retirement on June 2, 2021, before what would be his final season, not after. He would have an entire season to take a victory lap around college basketball.
That victory lap would culminate with a final home game against crosstown fierce rival North Carolina. ESPN had graphic packages and celebrity interviews all lined up for the easy win dook was going to have over the Tar Heels that would end coach's storied career in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Heels had something completely different in mind.

Back to the Future: A Complete Circle
A 5.5-hour epic adventure from October 16, 1985, to 1955, back to 1985, then to 2015, and an alternate 1985, back to 1955, and finally to 1885 before returning to October 26, 1985. All in one single presentation specifically edited to run seamlessly.
Because the two Back to the Future sequels begin exactly where the previous film ended, it presents a unique editing opportunity. By editing out the segues out and back into the films the story continues straight through. A few additions of Alan Silvestri score later, three Back to the Future films become one long epic.

1.27.1993 Carolina v FSU (THSN Sync)
Thanks to Carolina Replays on YouTube for this sync with the THSN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTeE887WEy4&t=85s.
Following a disappointing end to the 1991-1992 season with a Sweet 16 loss to Ohio State, the Heels wanted a bounceback. More importantly, the gray area around who the chief rival for the North Carolina Tar Heels was now royal blue.
Nearby in Raleigh, the NC State Wolfpack had long been considered Carolina's only rival. But a new challenger was in town just 8 miles away in Durham. Mike Krzyzewski was well on his way to being one of the most decorated coaches in basketball history, winning back-to-back championships with Duke in 1991 and 1992.
Dean Smith and the Tar Heels needed to answer and answer they would. Veteran leaders George Lynch, Derrick Phelps, Donald Williams, Brian Reese, Henrik Rodl, and Big Grits Eric Montross wanted to prove UNC had not been replaced on the national stage by their new crosstown rival. But on the journey to a third straight National Championship for the ACC, Carolina had a stout conference schedule. The Heels started 16-1 (5-0) with their lone loss coming at the buzzer in Hawaii to Michigan and the Fab Five (the two would rematch later). In their 18th game of the season, Carolina faced a salty Florida State team that had been chirping in the leadup about how tame the UNC crowd was - "They're a wine and cheese crowd." For the first 3/4 of the game, the fans mostly stayed on their hands as the action on the court gave the Tar Heel faithful little to cheer for. Then the last 12 minutes provided the Carolina crowd plenty to cheer for and there was no wine or cheese that day. Just sore hands and sore throats from clapping and cheering the Heels all the way back from a 21-point deficit.

11.29.2023 Carolina v Tennessee (THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
After a 5-1 start to the season, just who was this Tar Heel team? Following mostly positive but somewhat mixed results in three games in the Bahamas, the Heels came home for the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge. This time facing another Quad 1 team in Tennessee and a Volunteer squad hungry to get back to their winning ways. It was going to be important for this Carolina team to show what they got against a Rick Barnes-coached team that was sure to come ready to play.

11.22.2023 Carolina v Northern Iowa (THSN Sync + Postgame)
The Tar Heels have never won the Battle 4 Atlantis and if they were going to in year '23 it wouldn't be an exercise in mere attendance. They begin their journey against the University of Northern Iowa who ripped Carolina's heart out when now UNC Basketball assistant then senior at Carolina Marcus Paige saw his top-ranked team lose to the Panthers.
