04.02.2022 Carolina vs dook - Final Four Rat Retirement Party (THSN Sync + Postgame)
For the second time this particular basketball season, Carolina had an opportunity to completely spoil what dook, coach K, and the national media had planned for his send-off. A month earlier, the Heels beat the Blue Devils in their beloved coach's final home game of his career. Now in the second of two national semifinal games, the Hubert Davis lead Heels could host a retirement party for their crosstown rival.
This game features the play-by-play call by Jones Angell and color commentary from the late great Eric Montross who tragically passed away 20 months after this broadcast from complications with cancer.

Carolina Blue on Screen:
If you notice different blues from our graphics versus the broadcaster's graphics on the screen note this. North Carolina athletics, my love, has had color durability and consistency issues from a marketing perspective for years. We use Nike’s version of Carolina Blue, hex code 85ADEA for all UNC video content on this channel because it matches the uniforms, shoes, court, etc. You will notice ESPN and indeed other media outlets use the branding standard hex code 7BAFD4 the Tar Heels publish but it does not match virtually anything other than Carolin's marketing guide and the basket supports in the Smith Center. The discrepancies you see with the content on this channel are not my own but North Carolina’s inability to commit to one blue. We will remain consistent with the 85ADEA color for matching purposes.

Maybe? Yes sir! Final Round of the 1986 Masters
The 1986 Masters Tournament was the 50th Masters Tournament and was held April 10–13, 1986. Jack Nicklaus began the day an unthinkable winner at age 46 and was 4 strokes back (-2) of Greg Norman (-6). When Jack reached the par 5 15th in two, he faced a putt to move to 7 under and two strokes behind the leader Seve Ballesteros. The eagle dropped and on-course commentator Ben Wright noted, "There's life in the bear yet." Seve would hit his approach on 15 in the water making Jack's quest for a sixth green jacket very real. Jack would birdie 16 tying for the lead, setting the stage for one of the most memorable moments in Masters history. After a wayward drive off the tee his recovery approach to 17 green gave him an 18 foot look at birdie and the solo lead. Would he make it? Maybe? Yes sir! Greg Norman fashion he was tied for the lead on 18 with a chance to win or push or playoff. In typical Norman fashion, he did neither and bogeyed 18 to lose, and what a complete loser Greg Norman has been in every facet of his life. Just like his LIV Tour experiment. He's injected terrorist and division into the game of golf. Thankfully Jack won in 1986 and Greg did not.
Jack won his record 18th professional major with a historic one-stroke victory. He shot a final round 65 (−7), with a back nine of 30 (−6), for a total score of 279 (−9).[2][3] At age 46, he became the oldest winner of the Masters and the second-oldest winner of any major championship, behind Julius Boros, who was 48 when he captured the PGA Championship in 1968 (until they were both passed by Phil Mickelson when he won the 2021 PGA Championship aged 50). The win also gave Nicklaus a record six Masters victories, the first in 1963, less than ten months after his first major win at the 1962 U.S. Open. The 23-year span of Masters victories and 24-year span of major victories are also records.

THIS. Was Carolina Basketball 2023-2024.
Season highlights of a fantastic ride that ended just a little too soon. The Heels played one really bad half of basketball at the wrong time against Alabama, ending their hopes to fulfill their destiny of being the last team standing, the last Monday night.

02.17.2024 Carolina v Va Tech (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
This wasn't a get-right game per se, it was more of a just escape with a win scenario to get a week off before the trip to Charlottesville. Since the first half in Tallahassee, the Tar Heels haven't been the same dominant defensive team they were in the month leading up to that game. Except for the dook win, the wins from FSU to now were hard fought and there were three consecutive Tuesday losses including just the second loss to Clemson in Chapel Hill EVER. Carolina had looked a little mentally fatigued and needed a break. A win over Va Tech in Chapel Hill would get them to that week-long break before the long haul.
It might have taken a little longer to close out the Hokies, but a 15-point victory was exactly the right feeling for the top 10 Tar Heels as they head into their mini-break.

01.27.2024 Carolina @ FSU (THSN Sync + Pre & Postgame)
A nine-game undefeated start to conference play is something Carolina has not done since Matt Doherty was at the helm at the turn of the century. Heading into Tallahassee against the 2nd best Seminoles the Tar Heels had the opportunity to do just that. It wouldn't be easy, it was probably going to be a slugfest as Pete Chilcutt on color analysis pointed out. And a slugfest it was. But the win secured a 10th consecutive win and a perfect 9-0 ACC record.

01.13.2024 Carolina v Syracuse (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
Fresh off the three road conference wins to start 2024 at Pitt, Clemson, and NC State the Heels finally returned home to face Syracuse. No time to let off the pedal, from the tip Carolina was still cooking against the now Boeheim-less Orange.
*Throwback NC on the cover art as a tribute to the throwback uniforms worn for this game.

01.22.2024 Carolina v Wake (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
This season for the Tar Heels hasn't become the RJ Davis, that's why the Heels remain to this point undefeated in conference play and on an overall game-winning streak of 8 coming into a Monday evening matchup against Wake Forest. That said, RJ Davis put on a show in front of a packed-house Smith Center, scoring 36 points in 37 minutes played. The cast of characters around Ari (RJ) are playing well too. Cormac Ryan's shooting is rounding into shape, Jae'Lyn Wither is beginning to gain confidence coming off the bench, and Elliot Cadeau has defenders on skates a whole lot lately. Earlier in the season this team needed to find toughness and didn't quite crack that code against UConn and Kentucky. Not so anymore, through nearly half of the ACC schedule and it's the toughness on the defense that's informing the entire's team performance on both ends of the floor.

Video and audio sync courtesy of Carolina Replays on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/@carolinareplays
With the score tied at 66-66 and eight-tenths of a second left in regulation, the Tar Heels inbounded the ball to Brian Reese in the paint. Reese caught the ball, took one step, and slammed it off the back of the rim as the horn sounded. It may have been the longest eight-tenths of a second in the history of college basketball.
As the ball caromed into the air, several North Carolina players fell to the floor in disbelief. It would take overtime to determine who would advance to New Orleans and the Final Four against Kansas.

04.06.2009 Carolina v Michigan St. - National Championship (THSN Sync + One Shining Moment)
The 1975-1976 Indiana Hoosiers may have gone undefeated but arguably the best basketball ever played in an NCAA Tournament was performed by this Carolina Basketball team. In a scheduling break for the ages, this Tar Heel team beat Michigan State in December at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and now at the same venue against the same team Carolina was playing for a National Championship.
Coming into the final Monday of the college basketball season, the Tar Heels had won tournament games by 44, 14, 21, 12, and 14. No team, save LSU in the round of 32, even Carolina sweat for the win. After beating Michigan State at Ford Field by 25, most of the sports writers believed this game would be different. They were right. North Carolina was only able to win by 17.

03.17.1990 Carolina v Oklahoma - NCAA Second Round
Call it Carolina blue mystique or what have you, but a North Carolina team that has struggled throughout the season knocked top-ranked and testy Oklahoma out of the NCAA tournament Saturday, 79-77, on Rick Fox’s driving layup with one second left.
The victory sends North Carolina to Dallas to face Arkansas in the Midwest Regional semifinals Thursday in Dallas. Arkansas beat Dayton, 86-84, in Saturday’s other second-round game here.
The trip will mark the 10th consecutive season that the Tar Heels have reached the NCAA’s Sweet 16, but, after a 12-loss season that netted North Carolina the eighth seed in the Midwest, it can hardly be called a ho-hum experience.
“This kind of gives us our Carolina blue,” said Fox, who hit on five of seven three-point attempts and scored a game-high 23 points. “Before, we might have been wearing dark blue.”
Leaving the University of Texas’ Erwin Center with faces to match their crimson uniforms were the Sooners (27-5), the region’s top-seeded team.
Oklahoma guard Skeeter Henry, whose on-court antics have been criticized by the media recently, told reporters after the game: “We came as far as we could. Now you people are happy. We’re going home.
“We’re probably still the best team in the nation. Our guys gave 100%. The ball just didn’t bounce right.”
In truth, the Sooners never could generate one of their 45-rpm runs and make North Carolina play their game. “Remember, we like to run,” North Carolina Coach Dean Smith said later. “But we thought that maybe they like to do it better, and so we tried to keep the score in the 70s.”
The Tar Heels shot 53.7%, including seven of 10 from three-point range. And on a day when 6-foot-11 center Scott Williams had only two points and three rebounds before fouling out with 6:35 remaining, North Carolina out-rebounded the quicker Sooners, 32-28.
North Carolina (21-12) took control early, opening a 10-point lead eight minutes into the game, and every time Oklahoma’s pressure turned the tempo up a notch, North Carolina was able bring it back to Smith’s desired level.
The Sooners led by four, their biggest lead of the game, with three minutes left in the first half, Smokey McCovery’s layup off a fast break capping a 13-2 Sooner streak. But the Tar Heels answered with a 7-1 run to lead by two at the half.
Oklahoma crept back into the lead again early in the second half, going ahead by three with 13:35 showing. But the Tar Heels answered again, using all 45 seconds on the shot clock with their spread offense and making each shot count.
With 8:20 remaining, a jump shot by Pete Chilcutt--who scored 17 points--put North Carolina ahead by seven.
The Sooners came back, retaking the lead at 74-73 with 1:36 left. Fox came back with a three-pointer, but Oklahoma center William Davis--who had 22 points and 14 rebounds--scored inside, drew a foul and finished off the three-point play: Sooners by one again, 39 seconds to play.
The Tar Heels looked shaky as they worked for the last shot. Finally, with Smith frantically making a timeout signal that none of his players saw, point guard King Rice was fouled by McCovery. Rice made the front end of his one-and-one opportunity to tie the game, 77-77, but he missed the second free throw.
The 6-9 Chilcutt, however, managed to keep the ball alive, and it went out of bounds off the Sooners’ Jackie Jones under the North Carolina basket. The Tar Heels had another shot with eight seconds left.
Smith brought a little levity to the situation by reminding Fox in the huddle that a three-point shot wouldn’t be necessary to win the game. Then the Tar Heels went out and won it.
Rice inbounded the ball to Hubert Davis, who fed Fox on the right side. The 6-7 junior pump faked--”I’m surprised they fell for it,” he said--swept along the baseline and flicked his winning shot off the glass, well ahead of Jones’ late dash for a block.
Oklahoma Coach Billy Tubbs, who seemed to view his time in Austin as some sort of ordeal, said of Fox’s play: “We didn’t stop their penetration all day. The guy just took the ball and did a good job. We could sit here and talk strategy all day. It’s not going to change things.”
No, Oklahoma will go home and North Carolina will go to Dallas. On paper, it wasn’t supposed to be this way. The Sooners had surged into the tournament with eight consecutive victories, taking over the No. 1 spot in the rankings by routing both Missouri and Kansas when those teams were No. 1.
North Carolina had lost four of its last six games, including an overtime loss to Virginia in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
“Check our schedule again,” Smith said after the Oklahoma game. “A lot of teams playing that schedule might lose a few.”
It was having that experience that paid off in crunch time against Oklahoma, Fox said. “Our poise just took us down the stretch,” he said.
When told that Henry still considers Oklahoma to be the best team in the country, Fox showed he has some Sooner red in there with the Carolina blue.
“They’re a team of controversy,” he said. “They can say what they want to say. We’re the ones going to Dallas.”
Then, perhaps remembering whom he plays for, Fox added, “Although I don’t mean that in a cocky way.”

03.26.2017 Carolina v Kansas - NCAA Elite 8
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The North Carolina Tar Heels now are a win away from getting back to a national championship game they narrowly lost a year ago.
And this time, they made the last shot.
Luke Maye hit a jumper with 0.3 seconds left and top-seeded North Carolina held off Kentucky 75-73 to earn the Tar Heels' second straight trip to the Final Four and 20th all-time in Sunday's showdown of college basketball's elite in the South Regional.
The Tar Heels (31-7) will play Midwest champ Oregon on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona, in the national semifinal.
"We get to keep playing," North Carolina coach Roy Williams said.
North Carolina took control with 12 straight points over the final 5 minutes, a run similar to what it used a week ago to beat Arkansas. The Tar Heels finished this game with a 16-9 run. Kentucky's freshmen De'Aaron Fox and Malik Monk hit three quick 3s, the last two by Monk. Monk's second shot with 7.2 seconds left and defenders in his face tied it up at 73.
Theo Pinson brought the ball down and passed back to Maye. The sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina, knocked it down for the win with his feet on the 3-point line.
"I'm the guy that wanted him to come as a walk-on, so how dumb am I?" Williams said. "He (made) some big-time plays today, big-time plays two days ago."
Maye finished with 17 points off the bench for North Carolina. Justin Jackson scored 19 points, and Joel Berry II added 11.
The Wildcats had one last chance, but Derek Willis' inbounds pass went out of bounds on the far end.
Kentucky (32-6) will miss out on the Final Four for the second straight year. Willis and sophomore Isaac Humphries left the court with towels over their heads, and Fox was the last to leave.
The Wildcats had hoped their talented freshmen would carry them. Bam Adebayo and Fox each had 13 points, and Monk, the Southeastern Conference player of the year, finished with 12.
Never before had the NCAA Tournament pitted powerhouse programs that have so dominated March. This South final featured Kentucky with the most tournament wins all-time with 124 and North Carolina just behind with 120.
But this was just the fourth time these blue bloods have met in a regional final. The result was much the same as the others with North Carolina now 3-1 against Kentucky as the Tar Heels avenged a 103-100 loss on Dec. 17 in Las Vegas.
Kentucky led for only 3:57 in a game North Carolina had a big edge on the boards (44-34) and inside where the Tar Heels outscored the Wildcats 34-26.
Officials didn't help the flow of this game calling fouls left and right, though Kentucky took the brunt with its star trio of freshmen all picking up two fouls each in the half. Fox played only 8 minutes of the first half after picking up his second foul with 12:23 left. Adebayo easily was the most frustrated as he missed all five shots in the half with Kennedy Meeks swatting away one of his attempted dunks.
North Carolina led by as much as nine a couple times before both teams went into shooting slumps. The Tar Heels led 38-33 at halftime.

03.04.2017 Carolina v dook - Senior Day - “The Ceiling is the Roof”
CHAPEL HILL–Joel Berry II scored 28 points — including a critical late-game burst of seven straight for his team — to help No. 5 North Carolina hold off No. 17 Duke 90-83 on Saturday night.
Isaiah Hicks added 21 points for the Tar Heels, who battled through a nearly shot-for-shot fight with their fiercest rival to finish unbeaten at home. The game featured 24 lead changes and 14 ties before UNC (26-6, 14-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) finally pushed ahead for good in the final six minutes, with its final margin the biggest lead for either team all night.
Berry shot 9 of 14 and made all five of his 3-pointers to offset a tougher shooting night for leading scorer and ACC player of the year candidate Justin Jackson.
Luke Kennard, another league player of the year contender, finished with 28 points to lead the Blue Devils (23-8, 11-7).
North Carolina shot 51 percent and finished with a 15-5 edge in second-chance points, helping to offset a busy night for Duke at the foul line. The Blue Devils made 28 of 35 free throws but missed four — three by Grayson Allen — in the final 3½ minutes as Berry made his move.
Duke shot 54 percent in the first half but just 37 percent after halftime.
"You saw a game where a lot of guys played well," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "And that's it. Sometimes, it's not nuclear science here. It's that easy."
It was an eventful night in the rivalry. Allen, who finished with 14 points, received a technical foul for hitting defender Brandon Robinson in the head with an elbow while being fouled on a first-half drive.
Allen was booed loudly every time he touched the ball all night.
The game also drew former UNC and NBA great Michael Jordan, who appeared at halftime with North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora to announce a Jordan Brand apparel deal with the program.
Jackson finished with 15 points on 6-for-17 shooting while going just 1 of 7 on 3-point tries — though his only make came during the Tar Heels' game-clinching burst to help them win the ACC regular-season race by two full games. The Tar Heels ended the night by cutting down the home nets to mark the regular-season crown, a Senior Night tradition under Hall of Fame coach Roy Williams when UNC has closed out an ACC title with a win.

03.25.2022 Carolina v UCLA - NCAA Sweet 16
PHILADELPHIA—Caleb Love hit game-tying and go-ahead 3-pointers 37 seconds apart and North Carolina moved within a victory of its 21st Final Four, beating UCLA 73-66 on Friday night in a March Madness matchup of power programs.
Love, a sophomore, finished with a career-high 30 points, including six 3s and two game-clinching free throws with 7.8 seconds left. He scored 27 of Carolina's 45 points in the second half, including one stretch of 10 straight that kept the Tar Heels (27-9) in the game.
North Carolina's next game is Sunday against Saint Peter's in a first-of-its-kind 8-vs.-15 matchup in the Elite Eight. The 15th-seeded Peacocks topped Purdue 67-64 earlier in the evening.
Nobody stood out more than Love, who was held to five points in last week's win over Baylor, but managed one point more than that during the decisive 37 seconds. His go-ahead 3 came with 1:03 left and marked the last of 14 lead changes in the game that was also tied eight times.
Fourth-seeded UCLA (27-8) fell two wins short of its 20th Final Four. Last year's season ended on a shot from near half court by Gonzaga's Jalen Suggs. This time, Love did in the Bruins, who got 16 points from Jules Bernard and 15 from Tyger Campbell.
In their second-round win over Baylor, the Tar Heels squandered a 25-point lead only to pull things together and pull out the game in overtime.
That game got dicey once Brady Manek got tossed for throwing an inadvertent elbow. Manek played all but two minutes in this one and finished with 13 points.

For the ninth time in 19 years, the Tar Heels had a chance to close the season with the ACC Regular Season title barring a win over their rival dook. And for the ninth time with that on the line, Carolina prevailed.
It would be unfair to call Cormac Ryan the unlikely hero in this win for Carolina. Still, most if had to choose would have chosen RJ Davis, Armando Bacot, or Harrison Ingram who was the star over dook a month earlier in Chapel Hill. Instead, it was Cormac Ryan who exploded for 31. He was the leading points scorer and emotional leader, and with victory secured was the leader of bus top celebrators on Franklin Street.

03.17.2022 Carolina v Marquette - NCAA First Round
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—Brady Manek scored 28 points, Caleb Love had 21 of his 23 before halftime and North Carolina routed Marquette 95-63 in first-year coach Hubert Davis' NCAA Tournament debut Thursday.
Love made six 3-pointers, all in the first 19 minutes, to tie Carolina's single-game tournament record as the Tar Heels (25-9) built a 28-point lead.
Manek, who also had 11 rebounds, finished with five 3s as he and Love combined to go 11 of 24 from long range. Armando Bacot grabbed 10 rebounds on his way to the school season record (422).
RJ Davis had a career-high 12 assists for eighth-seeded Carolina, which will play defending champion Baylor less than 100 miles from the Bears' Waco campus Saturday.
The win was in stark contrast to last year, when the Tar Heels sent Roy Williams into retirement with his only opening-round loss in 30 NCAA appearances.
Shaka Smart's return to Texas was a dud a year after he took the Marquette job amid questions about his future as coach of the Texas Longhorns following a shocking first-round loss to Abilene Christian.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper scored 16 points for the No. 9 seed Golden Eagles (19-13), who lost their third consecutive first-round game.
Smart, who lost all three of his first-round games in six seasons with the Longhorns, had one of three Marquette technical fouls in a span of 90 seconds late in the first half when he complained about a no-call. Kur Kuath got one for hanging on the rim after a dunk. Darryl Morsell was penalized on review after a scramble for a loose ball.
Just before the tech spree, Morsell ended up nose-to-nose with Love after trying to take the ball out of his hands when Love was called for stepping on the midcourt line while trying to dribble around the stocky Marquette guard.
The Tar Heels were already up 18 when players from both teams had to be separated. It quickly got worse from there.
Carolina finished the first half on a 16-4 run for a 53-25 lead, and Manek made it a 34-point game (67-33) with consecutive 3s early in the second half. The biggest lead for the Tar Heels was 35.

03.19.2022 Carolina v Baylor - NCAA Second Round
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—RJ Davis scored a career-high 30 points with a nifty layup while being fouled in overtime, and eighth-seeded North Carolina blew a 25-point second-half lead but still found a way to beat defending champion Baylor 93-86 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
Brady Manek had a season-high 26 points before getting ejected because of a flagrant foul midway through the second half, right after his 3-pointer had given the Tar Heels (26-9) their largest lead.
A year after going out in the first round of the tourney in retiring coach Roy Williams' final game, Davis, Armando Bacot and these Tar Heels (26-9) are headed to Philadelphia and a Sweet 16 for first-year coach Hubert Davis.
Davis got his only points in overtime on the off-balance layup with 1:18 left and added the free throw for a 91-85 lead.
Adam Flagler had 27 points for Baylor (27-7), which made only one field goal in overtime. James Akinjo had 20 points while Jeremy Sochan had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
All-ACC power forward Armando Bacot had 15 points and 16 rebounds for North Carolina. After missing three of four free throws in the final 38 seconds of regulation, he made three of five in overtime.
The Tar Heels won as No. 8 seed over a top seed for third time. They did so on the way to the Final Four in 2000, 10 years after after beating top-seeded Oklahoma when Davis was a player for Dean Smith.
Baylor lost in the second round for the second time in the last three NCAA tourneys. The Bears, who fell to top-seeded Gonzaga in the round of 32 three years ago, were trying to match the biggest comeback ever in an NCAA Tournament game.
Manek, the graduate transfer from Oklahoma of the Big 12, was ejected with 10:08 left after his left elbow to the face of Sochan as they were battling underneath the Baylor basket. Manek had just drained a 3-pointer that put the Tar Heels ahead 67-42.
With Manek out, and Caleb Love fouling out soon after that, the Tar Heels had 10 turnovers as Baylor turned up the pressure and made a furious rally.
The Bears got within 76-73 on a three-point play with 1:48 left by Akinjo, who had another one with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 80-80. North Carolina had one more shot, but Davis' 3-point try hit off the front of the rim.

03.27.2022 Carolina v Saint Peter's - NCAA Elite 8
PHILADELPHIA—North Carolina crushed all hope of a March Madness miracle in the early going Sunday, getting 20 points and 22 rebounds from Armando Bacot in a wire-to-wire 69-49 runaway over 15th-seeded Saint Peter's.
The eighth-seeded Tar Heels (28-9) made their record 21st Final Four, and next on their list is none other than archrival Duke and its soon-to-be-retiring coach, Mike Krzyzewski.
Next Saturday in New Orleans will mark the first Final Four meeting — first NCAA Tournament meeting, in fact — between the Tobacco Road archrivals whose campuses are separated by 11 miles.
While Coach K's winding road to retirement has been something to watch this March, nothing has captured more imaginations than the run put on by underdog Saint Peter's. The entire basketball budget for this scrappy group from Jersey City, New Jersey, is $1.6 million — or around $400,000 less than what Tar Heels first-year coach Hubert Davis, who was sobbing as his players enveloped him after the buzzer, makes in a year.
Two nights earlier, the Peacocks (21-12) beat Purdue to become the first 15 seed to advance to an Elite Eight. They are hardly the first team to see grand plans undone by
It got ugly early.
After Carolina's Leaky Black missed a free throw 2 1/2 minutes in, Bacot edged in for the offensive rebound and an easy putback. It gave Carolina a 7-0 lead. In its three tournament wins over Kentucky, Murray State and Purdue, Saint Peter's had never trailed by more than six.
The Peacocks, whose 10-game win streak ended, moved the ball well and got plenty of good looks over the first 10 minutes. Some shots went halfway down and rimmed out. Others bounced twice on the iron but wouldn't fall. They trailed 21-7 after missing their first six shots, and 16 of their first 19.
Late in the first half, Daryl Banks III swooped in for what looked like a windmill jam. It got rejected — by the front of the rim. It made the Peacocks 5 for 27 on the night, and when Bacot dunked on the next possession, North Carolina led 36-15.
Fousseyni Drame led Saint Peter's with 12 points and KC Ndefo had 10.
The weekend before, North Carolina had taken a 25-point lead against Baylor only to see it all melt away before pulling the game out in overtime. The turning point there came when Brady Manek got ejected for throwing an inadvertent elbow. Manek finished this game on the sideline, too — watching garbage time from the bench after scoring 19 points.
It was an emotional evening for Davis, who replaced Roy Williams, the coach who took the Tar Heels to five Final Fours over 18 years. Now the 51-year-old Davis joins the likes of Ray Meyer, Steve Fisher and Denny Crum as rookies to reach the sport's biggest stage.
Were it not for Saint Peter's, maybe North Carolina would be the underdog story of this tournament. Way back when, in 1985, another 8 seed shocked the world. It was Rollie Massimino's 1985 Villanova team.
Then again, these are the Tar Heels. They've been playing as well as anyone for more than a month.
When they beat Duke, 94-81, at Cameron Indoor Stadium on March 5, it cast a cloud over what was supposed to be a celebration of Coach K's final home game. On Sunday, they wrecked another of those so-called "perfect" story lines.
But this is more than a consolation prize for college hoops: Next, UNC and Duke meet for the 258th time — and never with the stakes so high.

03.09.2003 Carolina v dook (THSN Sync - Woody Durham, Mick Mixon, & Phil Ford)
PLEASE BE ADVISED. THE ORIGINAL SOURCE VIDEO WHICH WAS ALSO THE BEST VIDEO QUALITY AVAILABLE WAS HEAVILY CONDENSED. THIS REQUIRED A STILL IMAGE OF WOODY, MICK, AND COACH FORD BETWEEN A LOT OF THE ACTION TO AVOID ELIMINATING THE FULL RADIO BROADCAST FROM THE TAR HEEL SPORTS NETWORK.
Following a disappointed 2001-2002 campaign, the Tar Heels were reloaded for 2002-2003 with sophomores Jawad Williams, Jackie Manuel, and Melvin Scott combined with new freshman additions Raymond Felton, Sean Maye, and Voldemort. The new look Heels showed promise but still took some lumps during the season.
As the final game arrived, Carolina was 15-14 and needed to beat rival dook at home to secure a winning season in Matt Doherty's third season as the Tar Heel skipper. As with any Carolina/dook game, it would be a fight but seriously this one was. Tensions rose, blood was shed, and in the end, the Heels prevailed in a Tobacco Road classic.
Synced with the TV broadcast on the call for this game was the legendary Voice of the Tar Heels Woody Durham alongside trusty sidekick Mick Mixon and [at the time] all-time leading scorer for North Carolina Phil Ford. it was after Coach Bill Guthridge retired and Coach Doherty arrived with his own staff, that Phil Ford left the sideline as an assistant coach and joined the Tar Heel Sports Network as color commentator joining Woody and Mick.

03.05.2024 Carolina v Notre Dame (THSN Sync - Pregame + Rapid Reactions)
Senior Day at Carolina is always special. Sure, all schools honor their seniors but at Carolina not only are the seniors honored, but the seniors start the game regardless of role on the team.
Senior Day 2024 is one of the most unique in a series of unique years. Armando Bacot is ending his five-year run with the Tar Heels made possible by the Covid year. And his final game to be played in the Smith Center, Mando made the most of it! The game itself was a two-hour coronation for the Heels who were celebrating seven seniors of varying term lengths in Chapel Hill and contribution levels, but a win would secure at minimum a share of the ACC Regular Season Championship - the 33rd for the Tar Heels in 71 years of ACC existence.

This video is not monetized because it's not as a whole my original source content but does include my original artwork and my interpretation of how the events unfolded using THSN audio, ESPN video, my artwork, and my editing to compile it together. All of which to gather from our surroundings what was wanted and needed, and make of it something more. Something wholly original in its presentation and thereby a work of art.

03.09.2003 Carolina v dook (THSN Sync - Woody Durham, Mick Mixon, & Phil Ford - FULL GAME CONDENSED)
