Sports Illustrated Goes Bankrupt Trying To Provide Enough Catering For Cover Model Shoot
U.S. — Sports Illustrated has declared bankruptcy after trying to provide enough catering for their latest plus-size model photo shoot. Sources say the company ran out of money halfway through the shoot and was forced to file for Chapter 11 as the models were demanding more food.
"We spent millions on food for these body-positive models, but we still ran out of food 15 minutes in," said SI photographer Fitz Bitzley. "In addition to professional catering companies, we also ordered from Chick-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, Steak Escape, Subway, Wing Stop, Popeye's, Burger King, and 378 other restaurants. They just kept demanding more and more. Now, they're shrieking and running after us like they're going to eat us. I'm terrified."
Bitzley's statement was cut short after one of the models swallowed him whole along with all his camera equipment.
"It's really sad that we weren't able to finish this photoshoot, because we're sure millions of people were looking forward to seeing these woman wearing tiny swimsuits," said a spokesman for Sports Illustrated. "Now the world may never see these photos. Sad!"
Sources say the models weighed a combined 12 tons and included plus-size influencers Jessica Torres, Tess Holliday, and your mom.

In a span of four hours, the top-ranked golfer in the world was arrested wearing gym shorts and a tee shirt, dressed in an orange jail shirt for his mug shot, returned to Valhalla Golf Club in golf clothes and made his 10:08 a.m. second-round tee time.
“This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers,” he said in a statement released as he was warming up on the range. "It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do." Attorneys in (D) Sen. Menendez trial say FBI found gifts, not bribes
May 16, 2024
Gold bars and stacks of cash highlighted the testimony of the first witness in the corruption trial of Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on Thursday, as prosecutor's sought to drive home for jurors the scale of the alleged bribes. Former federal prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni says the physical presence of the evidence could add significant weight to the prosecution's arguments in juror's minds.

DOJ formally moves to reclassify marijuana
The Justice Department on Thursday formally moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug in a historic shift in generations of U.S. drug policy.
A proposed rule sent to the federal register recognizes the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledges it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. The plan approved by Attorney General Merrick Garland would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.

University of East Anglia researchers say initially face masks reduced the spread of covid

How masks hold up against Covid
Face mask efficacy depended on the Covid variation.
Wearing a face mask did not reduce the risk for infection after the first omicron wave.
University of East Anglia researchers say initially face masks reduced the spread of covid.
But after December 2021, there was a shift. The omicron variant was better able to infect the cells lining the upper respiratory tract than previous variants and so it became more transmissible even in the presence of nose and mouth shields.
The study was funded by the National Institute for Healthcare Research.

Poll says: Gop sucks - Is there a left wing agenda?

And these groups often see themselves as a private army of regulators working shoulder-to-shoulder with government ones.
Staff lawyers for the environmental group the Natural Resources Defense Council, says Laksin, describe their job as, "We're the shadow EPA; we make the EPA do its job."
Bizarre as it is to contemplate the fortunes of supercharged capitalists like Rockefeller, Carnegie and Ford being used to fight capitalism, isn't pointing this out merely conservative whining? Surely everyone is entitled to spend their money promoting whatever message they please.
Correct, says Laksin. But these foundations' tax-exempt status depends on their being nonpartisan. He mentions that the head of Pew Trusts, Rebeca Rimmel, recently complained that the book falsely portrays Pew as a partisan group. "That's demonstrably false," Laksin says. "Pew Trusts spends millions funding radical environmental groups like Earth Justice and anarchist Ruckus Society. If that's non-partisan, then the term has no meaning. Foundations should be upfront about their political agendas." And lose their tax-exempt status.
It was free-market apostle Adam Smith who said, "People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public."
Wary of business today, regulators observe it closely. But the blob of regulation, with its ability to draw on the public purse, the private foundations and its close relationship with like-minded media, grows by the day.

UNC board removes DEI funding from next year's budget; Moves $2.3M to public safety
May 13, 2024 UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL
UNC-Chapel Hill's Board of Trustees on Monday approved the transfer of $2.3 million in diversity and inclusion spending to public safety priorities in the 2024-25 budget.
The trustees held a special meeting Monday morning. The board is scheduled to hold its regular meeting Wednesday and Thursday. The UNC System Board of Governors is expected to vote next week to eliminate diversity goals and jobs at member institutions, including UNC-Chapel Hill. A Board of Governors committee last month approved a complete rewrite of the system's existing diversity, equity and inclusion policy.
The move is likely to create job losses at the Chapel Hill campus, said trustee Dave Boliek. The $2.3 million is money from state-appropriated dollars and trust fund money that were "immediately identified," Boliek said. The system office identified that money, he said. The university's operating budget in 2023-24 was $4.2 billion
