Beautiful Day Fishing ~ Baby NOT Here Yet ~ Working On Websites
Melanie and spent a day at Avery Lake fishing. We have not yet had our baby despite what rumors say. I have been working hard on my old Web pages to make them mobile friendly.
Get The Off Grid Project T-shirt here: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/support-the-off-grid-project
We went to Avery Lake near our Homestead to spend the day fishing for food. We are trying to stock the freezer with our own natural caught, raised or harvested meat. We got some nice fish but had to release many due to being too small.
We took the Silverfire Hunter survival wood gassifier stove with us. We had an amazing meal by the lake cooked on this stove. We booth love this stove since you can cook for free with any combustible materials. The stove cooks for 45 minutes or more using a handful of twigs.
We have not yet had our baby contrary to rumors that are floating around. I think people assume this because I have not made any videos in a few days. But the reason is because I have been busy coding my old Web pages.
Google made some changes in requirements for getting a website to show in the results. I have to get my website mobile friendly in order to get back online. Since it has been too hot outside for me to work anyway, this was the perfect time for me to work on the website.
Before the Google changes my website used to bring me 30% of my monthly income. Now it is just a small fraction of that. I hope to bring it back up to the top. I am reworking many of my old articles. It is interesting to see these old articles again. I did some interesting experiments and projects back then.

Homestead Garden Harvest ~ Scorching HOT ~ TShirt Sales Are Back
Melanie and I are starting to reap the harvest from out garden that we worked so hard on this year. The Off Grid Project Tshirt sales are back. Get yours here: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/support-the-off-grid-project
It got really hot today with temperatures in the 90s. This slowed me down a lot. Well, it actually brought any physical labor to a screeching halt. Melanie was not affected by the heat though and was happily working in her outdoor kitchen processing food from our garden.
I brought in a gallon container of green and semi ripe tomatoes and then another gallon of ripe roma type tomatoes. Our tomato plants are finally bearing fruit and ripening. This is why I worked so hard all this time to protect and preserve our plants.
Later in the day it was way too hot for me to go outside so I worked on the computer for a while.
I also worked on my other sources of income for the rest of the day.
If you have not got one yet, here is your chance to get The Off Grid Project T-Shirt. Many people have asked me for a shirt recently so I am bringing them back.
We are moving into the tiny house/chalet and winter is coming soon. We have a lot of projects to complete before the snow comes. The sale of shirts will help us to complete these projects.

Started Building Shelves But Spent Day In Hospital Instead
The day started out well enough. I got out all my tools and started to build a book shelf to sit on top of the end table I just made. But then we ended up spending the day at the hospital.
We called in to schedule a normal appointment for Melanie. But the nurse on duty was a bit flustered when we told her our situation and insisted that we come into the birthing center immediately.
I tried to let her know that nothing really has changed in two weeks since we had been there but she said the baby could die if we did not come in immediately to the birthing center.
So we went and spent the day in the hospital running tests. Some time was at the birthing center and some time spent waiting to see a doctor later on.
The doctor told us what we already knew. That we had to make a normal appointment to see Melanie's doctor.
And one more thing though. If Melanie does not give birth over the weekend then we will schedule an appointment next week to induce labor.
So, after a day at the hospital, we are back home again with the same results we started out with. We wait.

Building An End Table With Storage Underneath Hinged Lid
Since we are moving into the tiny house with no storage I am building an end table with an open top lid and storage inside using reclaimed lumber.
I have some very nice, heavy lumber that I got from the local lumber mill. This was cast off lumber which all had flaws of some kind. It was destined to be used as fire wood.
This one huge plank is a true 2x12 and is quite long. I wanted to make a table out of it since I first saw it.
The tiny house has no storage so we must come up with something. All my odds and ends are floating all over the kitchen counter right now and this is not acceptable.
So I have been planning to make an end table with storage inside, under the lid. On top I will make a book shelf because we also have no place for books.
This end table is being made entirely off the grid using the power of the sun. My solar panels feed the wood shop with all the power I need.
I first cut the table top pieces and then tried to plane them but they are too warped and uneven. It will take too long and cut off too much wood to plane them down properly.
So I used the belt sander to smooth out the top pieces.
Next I cut out the pieces that will make the box underneath for storage. For a bit of design I cut the front end on an angle.
I sanded these down as well but left a bit of the rough cut saw marks and some of the color from again.
This wood has old worm holes which also add to its character.
I used screws to hold it all together and then screwed two of the top pieces on. I was going to get all fancy and screw the top boards down from inside but realized it would take up some space inside the storage area so I just went from the top. I counter sunk them and will later plug up the holes with sawdust and glue.
I took a 2 x 5 piece of rough lumber and cut it to size for the legs. Then I ripped them in half length wise on the table saw.
The legs are very rough cut and have a sort of ribbed pattern in them. This is sort of cool and gives some design to them.
By now it was starting to get dark outside so I had to hurry it up some.
I fastened the legs in place using screws and counter sunk them a bit.
I used some scrap wood strips and nailed them into place to hold the bottom of the cabinet in place.
The bottom of the storage cabinet was two strips of 6 inch wide by 1/4 inch thick lumber. I cut the pieces to fit around the table legs. The legs run all the way up inside the cabinet to the top. This gives more space for screws and more strength.
The cabinet will have a book shelf on top so it must be sturdy.
By now it was full dark outside so I had to call it a day. Tomorrow I will finish sanding the rough edges and give it a coat of linseed oil if I can find some.
I brought the entire end table into the tiny house to see how it fits. I love how it makes the place look somehow more finished. It fits perfectly next to the couch.
Now I have a place to put my morning coffee :)
We got a gift in the mail containing a pair of cute winter baby boots. Thank you very much.
We cant wait for the baby to arrive. She should be here any day now.

Cutting Fire Wood & Making Bedini Motor Parts List
I finally got my electronics shop cleaned up and put together the Bedini Motor parts list. I will be guiding you step by step through the build on my electronics channel The Do It Yourself World Electronics.
You can find the parts list video here: https://youtu.be/YNBnm0LTzLs
And here is the full article with links to parts: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11471
In the morning I was back at my neighbor's place cutting logs into fire wood. He has a couple dump truck loads of logs and he needs them cut. For the work I get to bring home some of the fire wood to heat our own tiny house this winter.
I worked until lunch time and then went home to eat. Due to the venom from the wasp sting I had to take a nap after lunch.
I never recovered my strength this day so I went out into the electronics shop and cleaned it up. This was a mess due to my moving all my boxes out of the trailer and garage into the electronics shop.
Finally I got my electronics shop cleaned up and ready to use again.
I put together a parts list for building a Bedini Motor. I made a very detailed video on my electronics channel. See links above.

Sam Demonstrating His Tentsile Tent In The Air While Visiting The Homestead
During his visit to our off grid homestead Sam demonstrated his Tentsile tent in the sky. This is a tent which is suspended in the air between three trees.
There are many advantages to having your tent in the trees. One is that you are safer from animals and insects entering your tent in the night. You can put an outdoor kitchen or camp area under the tent. You can have a rain free place to hang out in bad weather.
And you never again have that lump under you due to uneven ground or a log or rock under your tent.
The Tentsile tent is pretty awesome really and goes up in minutes. All you need are three trees to support it from
With the Connect series you can hook up three tents together for a sort of tent city.
This tent is very rugged and has ripstop material on the floor.
The tent is very spacious and can easily hold two people and their gear.
There are storage compartments inside as well which you can move around at will.
The rain fly goes on in seconds and keeps out the bad weather.
Sam demonstrated how you can also hook up a hammock underneath for a day area or for an extra guest.
You can find the Tentsile tents here: http://amzn.to/2xLCRec
Thank you Sam for a cool demonstration.

Cutting Fire Wood ~ New Wood Stove ~ Gifts Arrived & More
Big mix today on the off grid homestead. We are using food from our own garden, cutting fire wood for winter, got a new wood stove and much more.
I spent the first half of the day cutting fire wood. A neighbor got two dump truck loads of full logs and asked me to cut them. For my trouble I get some fire wood as well.
This is helpful because we need some cured hardwood to keep us warm this winter. All we have here is 18 acres of pine wood.
We loaded up his truck to bring some wood over when I was finished for the day.
I am feeling a bit ill today yet from the wasp sting I received last Saturday. It comes and goes and I have some good days and bad. This was a bad day.
I have no ill effects from the two yellow jacket stings I got the other day though. I had immediately taken a benadryl and then covered the wounds in baking soda and water. Then I chewed up a wild plantain leaf and put that onto the wounds for a while. Both the baking soda and plantain should pull out the venom.
They seem to have worked because the next day I did not feel anything at all from the stings.
I cut the fire wood to 8 inch lengths because we just got a small pot belly wood stove for $20. This is just like the one I had in NY in my old camper when I first went off the grid. It looks exactly the same except it does not have the water jacket around it.
One of the top plates was broken so I gave that to a friend to weld for me. We hope to use this smaller stove this winter for heating the tiny house. The larger stove I got earlier is just way too big for the tiny home. It was designed for 2,400 square feet or larger.
After bringing it home and measuring it out, I realized that it would take up the entire living area of the tiny house with proper clearances on all sides. This is just not acceptable.
The tiny potbelly stove is perfect for the job though.
We are eating from our garden more and more. We are still getting peas, zucchini, and tomatoes. We also have potatoes and onions in the ground that we use as needed.
The chili peppers are growing again after recovering from the freezing August nights.
My neighbor came over and knocked down the wasp nest hanging by the trailer front door. Then he sprayed it with wasp killer.
After that he helped me expose the yellow jacket nest in the crawl space of the trailer and we sprayed that as well. But it does not seem to have stopped them yet.
The wild kittens came over to the door of the tiny house for some food. These are quite wild and we cannot get close to them. But they come to eat at night when we put food out for them. I hope they will stay around and eat the rodents that infest the place.
We got some gifts in the mail for our baby girl. Thank you everyone who sent us packages.
Later in the evening I had a little bonfire and burnt the wasp nest that was on the trailer. There were still some larvae alive in there and I cannot risk my life or that of my family.

ThruNite Neutron 2C 1100 Lumen USB Chargeable LED Light
ThruNite sent me their Neutron 2C USB chargeable 1100 Lumen LED flashlight which takes a variety of batteries. Read full article: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11470
This light is so convenient for multiple reasons. First it is USB chargeable which means that you can charge it virtually anywhere at any time these days. I keep it charged up in the car or using my folding solar panels.
Another great feature is the ability to accept a variety of batteries. This light can use many different battery types which means you can always find a battery in emergency situations. This makes it an awesome survival light.
With 1100 Lumens the ThruNite Neutron 2C flashlight really lights up the night. It pierces the darkness up to 240 meters which is great for tracking predators in the night.
The Neutron 2C comes with a belt pouch so it has become my every day carry light. I keep it on my side at all times now. I cant believe how often I grab for this light on a daily basis. Again the USB charging port makes it so convenient to keep it charged any time, anywhere.
As usual with ThruNite, this comes with a variety of spare parts which makes it a light to last a lifetime.
The Neutron 2C LED flashlight has infinitely adjustable brightness from 650 Lumens to 12 Lumens. And it has a super powerful 1100 Lumen turbo mode.
For survival or a night light you can set it on firefly mode with 0.5 Lumens. This is bright enough to read a map or a book but not give away your position in survival.
The ThruNite Neutron 2C is a really amazing light.

Off To A Good Start Then Disaster Strikes
The day started out well but then later the venom in my system from the wasp sting kicked in, making me ill. Then I got stung by two yellow jackets. Boy, what a day.
I started out the day feeling a bit off. As the day progressed I felt more and more ill due to the wasp sting I had from Saturday. I was getting all red and blotchy and felt quite ill.
We were cooking with our solar cooker all day. Melanie made breaded chicken which she served with potatoes. Later she made blueberry muffins. And then we had dinner cooked with the solar oven. All of our meals and desert were cooked using the power of the sun.
I am admiring the greenhouse. It really looks good to see all the plants growing out there. And the view from the tiny house kitchen is very nice.
I had planned to set up the new solar panel rack in front of the trailer. This will power our two homes with off grid solar power.
Right now the only thing using the power grid is our water pump which is 240 volts. I hope to get that going on solar soon too.
After lunch I was quite ill so I took a nap. Later in the afternoon I went out to get some cement blocks for a project I wanted to work on but hit a yellow jacket nest. I got stung twice.
That was the end of my day.
Fortunately I did not have an allergic reaction to the wasp stings. They say that you react differently to different types of stings. Yellow jackets are not so bad for me. It just felt like electricity going through the wounds.

Finishing Greenhouse Framing & How We Use Solar Power
I was busy all day working on the greenhouse framing. I am nearly done now. We are using the power of the sun for light to power most of our needs.
I got right to work in the morning on the greenhouse framing. I finally got the angle of the rafters perfect and nailed one set into place on the roof.
I started experimenting on framing in the doorway as well. Remember I am using scrap and junk lumber so I am letting the wood lead and guide me as I go rather than making a solid, firm plan on paper.
The framing of the doorway also strengthens up the entire building and stops wobble.
Outside in the yard I had my SunJack folding solar panel and my SunTactics folding solar panel out charging my two SunJack LED light sticks.
We use the LED light inside our tiny house at night instead of using grid powered lights. All of our lamps inside the tiny home are converted to LED bulbs anyway but the more we can save, the better.
We also use our main solar panels during the day to charge up batteries in our devices such as phones and laptops. This allows us to run nearly fully off the grid at night.
The fridge is powered directly by the solar panels during the day.
The only thing that we cannot power right now with our solar panels is the water pump, which is 240 volts AC.
At this time we are not using any heat since the Chalet/tiny house is well insulated and maintains a temperature around 70 degrees F all the time.
In the afternoon Melanie prepared a meal for us to cook out in the GoSun solar stove. I set up the stove and left the meal all day to cook. You cannot really over cook a meal in this stove so its perfect to set it and forget it.
Out on the greenhouse build I put together two 11 foot long shelves to hold all of or garden plants we saved from the freezing nights which destroyed everything else.
This took me quite some time because again I am working with scrap lumber but I got it eventually.
I then put all our plants up on the shelves and sat back to enjoy my work.
Back inside our off grid tiny house dinner was ready. It sure turned out good and was that much better because it was cooked for free by the power of the sun.

Building A Greenhouse To Extend Our Homestead Growing Season
Out behind the house Melanie and I put a raised herb garden where the previous owners had a tent deck. Now I am building a greenhouse over the herb garden to extend their growing season. Read the full article: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11468
I have a bunch of wood from earlier when I hauled it for the chicken coop build. Some of the wood is good for chicken coop siding and some is being saved for other projects.
I am sorting through all my wood into various piles based on the projects I have waiting. There is wood for bird houses, some for shelves inside the tiny house, some for the greenhouse and more.
Some of the wood is still wet even after laying out all this time. So I am laying that out in the open air while we have sun this week.
I am building a greenhouse where we will keep our garden vegetables and herbs through the year. I hope to keep some of the plants all year.
The walls are going to be 5 feet high on the sides and the roof will peak at 8 feet in the middle.
It is very slow going though because I have to sort out every single board as I work.
I managed to get the four walls up pretty smoothly.
Then it was time to work out the roof. I am making this up as I go along because I am using scrap lumber. I am sort of letting the lumber lead the project.
I ended up with a 12 foot beam across the top and three posts supporting it to the ground. This beam will hold the weight of the roof and transfer the winter snow load directly to the earth. This will keep most of the weight off the walls themselves.
By the time I got two rafters cut and in place I was exhausted and figured it was time to clean up before I hurt myself. I have to re cut the angles in the rafters anyway due to adding the beam.

Moving Into Our Tiny House ~ Chalet ~ For The Winter
Melanie and I are moving into a tiny house again. This time not on wheels. But soon it will be fully off the grid. Read full article: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11467
The Chalet is more insulated than the trailer and has much better windows.
The trailer windows leak and the walls are thin. We figured it would cost about $15,000 to fix it up and winterize the trailer. This is in no way possible this year.
The Chalet is a tiny house by all means. It is better insulated and has much thicker walls. The tiny house also has double hung windows with built in storm windows and some are also double glass.
The tiny house was always cooler in summer which told me that it was better insulated because the trailer got hot. And on cold mornings the Chalet/tiny house was never much below 60 degrees F whereas the trailer was only 10 degrees F over the outdoor temperature.
We had scorching hot days and freezing cold nights this year so we are talking from experience already.
Melanie and I moved our bedding and necessary items into the tiny house today. We also moved out anything that did not belong such as my survival gear and electronics.
The tiny house also has three bedrooms so it is better for raising a family in. Each person can have their own room.
It was sort of slow going because I was groggy from a wasp sting and the medications I was taking. Melanie is very much nearing the end of her pregnancy so she is a bit slower too.
But we got the job done for the day. We got all the necessities for our first night into the tiny house.

Simple Cheap Hoop House Alternative & Extend Growing Season
We had freezing nights all summer so I had to come up with a simple and affordable hoop house alternative which only cost me $8. Read the full article: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11466
We planted our garden three times this year since we moved to our new homestead. The first time we planted about 300 seedlings and rodents ate them clean off.
Next we bought plants and waited until all danger of the last frost was past and planted. But this year is very strange and it froze that night.
So we bought more plants and tried again. This time we had better success but we had a lot of colder nights which seem to have stunted the plants growth.
Then in August we started to get freezing nights again. We got hit with a freeze which we did not know was coming. Then it kept freezing on and off since then.
I bought some 3 mil drop cloths at a local store for only $1.99 each. At first I was putting them over the plants directly but each time it froze, anything touching the plants was damaged.
So I stared to consider ways to keep the plastic off the plants.
And I was also sorting out plastic sheets every night because in the morning I quickly tore them off to stop the hot sun from baking the plants under the plastic.
I kept hearing about hoop houses but they have a cost to them. You have to have something to make the frame with. I cannot afford that right now.
So I came up with a modified hoop house which looks like a tent.
I have stakes in the garden rows to allow the plants to climb up anyway. So I simply strung up a rope in between the stakes. The rope is higher than the top of the plants.
I then put my plastic drop cloths in place one more time. But this time they are permanent.
When I have to uncover the plants I simply roll the plastic up to a stake. Then I use tie down straps to keep the plastic from blowing around in the wind.
At night I simply remove the tie down straps and unroll the plastic into place over the plants.
In this way I have saved our tomato plants from temperatures down to 28 degrees so far with no problem.
If you dont have stakes like I had on hand, you can use sticks, bamboo, metal rods or anything that will hold the plastic up.
The only cost was the plastic at $8 total.
This is our modified hoop house. I call it our hoop tent.

About The Wasp Sting That Put Me In The Hospital
I got stung by a single paper wasp the other day which put me in the hospital. I explain what happened and show the nest where the wasps live.
I have lived in peace with paper wasps for years now with no problem. I have never been stung by anything before now.
There was a paper wasp nest on the corner of the house all year and they never bothered me until recently.
I have been walking past for days and recently they have been attacking my hat. I did not think anything of it though because they would hit my hat and buzz away. I figured it was by mistake.
Saturday I went out to get my coffee cup to bring in for lunch and did not have my hat on. A wasp hit me in the head fast and hard.
At first I did not feel the sting but quickly ran back inside the house.
The moment I got inside the pain hit me. It felt like hot acid pouring over my head. I had pain down my face and neck.
The pain receded some and I sat to eat my now cooling lunch. But then the itching came. It was hot and intense. My feet and head were the worst.
Melanie and I rushed to the pharmacy in town. My phone does not work out here at all. We have AT&T here and get no reception at all at home.
I had to go to town for help.
I took two benadryl and sat down to see what would happen. I started to get very dizzy and lose my vision. That is when I had the pharmacy call an ambulance.
I went through hot flashes, numbness, tingling, itching and dizziness all in waves. Each wave would come and go with another wave following.
The ambulance put some drugs in me and then I got to the hospital where they pumped a lot more drugs in me.
I made the live video at the hospital then. I had no idea how bad I really looked until I later saw the video myself.
A few hours later I was looking and feeling better so they released me with some prescriptions.
I am on three different medications right now for the next ten days. The medicine takes away the symptoms but makes me dizzy and a bit fuzzy in the mind.
I sprayed the paper wasp nest two times so far with Raid wasp and hornet killer. Each morning when it is below freezing I hit them. Somehow there are still wasps returning to the nest though even today.
Melanie and I are walking very wide and far around the nest until they are all dead.

Saving What We Can From Our Homestead Garden
We got our first tomato harvest from our garden. We are trying to save what we can from the cold, freezing nights so that we can have some sort of harvest from our labors.
We have had a very unusual and cold summer with many freezing nights all the way through. The cold killed most of our garden already in August. Since then we have been covering the plants when the weather forecast is for 42 degrees or lower. We know that we now get about 10 degrees colder at night than in town.
I am digging out some of the chili plants that are still holding on to life. I am putting them into pots in order to save them. We hope to still get some little bit of produce from our work all year.
Melanie made an awesome mincemeat pie from our homestead garden harvest. We are picking up all the green tomatoes that drop off the plants as the cold kills them off. We are making our own salsa and pie fillings with them.
I am hoping that I can keep the tomato plants growing though for a while because they are still alive. Some of the plants are still producing fruit and flowering. Others are no longer flowering but the tomatoes are still growing.

Day At The Hospital & Mincemeat Pie
Melanie had a bit of water dripping through the night so we spent the next day in the hospital waiting for a baby. After being sent home she made mincemeat pie filling.
In the previous evening Melanie had some bit of drainage. We kept an eye on it and the drainage continued through the night.
We had a normal checkup in our local clinic the next morning and when we explained things they sent us right into the hospital.
We were taken into a room and tests were run on her. But after many hours of waiting and testing they sent us home. They said it could be a couple hours and it could be days yet. You just never know.
So we headed back to our homestead to wait.
Her contractions were spaced at 5 to 7 minutes apart but were brief in duration.
Later at home the time changed to 1 to 2 minutes in between with 30 to 60 seconds duration. Still the hospital was not sure, especially with us being 45 minutes away.
So we stayed home and Melanie made mincemeat pie filling using some of the green tomatoes from our frost killed plants.
I worked on the chicken coop and computer while Melanie worked in the kitchen.
She had been told to either go home and rest so maybe the contractions will go away. Or exercise and be active and maybe the baby will come. Melanie chose to be active.
A package arrived from a friend containing some baby blankets and clothing. Thank you.
We will keep you updated as things proceed.

Making Homemade Ice Cream Fast & Easy ~ Done In Minutes
Melanie and I now make our own ice cream using a Donvier ice cream maker. This one only takes a few minutes to make healthy, all natural ice cream by hand. Read the full article: http://www.thedoityourselfworld.com/articles/article.php?id=11465
You can find one here: http://amzn.to/2w6Q2Rl
We found our Donvier manual ice cream maker at a garage sale for only $2. But I think that if you want to make ice cream at home fast, cheap and easy this is the way to go.
With this ice cream maker you do not need ice or rock salt like you do with other hand operated models.
With this ice cream maker you simply put the tub in the freezer over night.
When you are ready to make ice cream you put the ice cream maker together using the rubber seal. Then pour in the ingredients and occasionally stir.
That is all it takes to make perfect homemade ice cream at home.
This is truly the easiest ice cream maker I have ever tried. No more hand cranking for hours. This one makes ice cream in minutes.
I know, this sounds like an ad but we are very pleased with our ice cream maker. We actually eat a lot of ice cream here in our home and this saves us money. It also allows us to put in whatever we want. And we know it is healthier than store purchased ice cream because we use natural ingredients.

End Of Garage Sale ~ Another Freeze & More To Come
Our garage sale is finished and was a success. We had another bad freeze which killed more of our garden plants.
We woke up to 28 degrees in the morning with a heavy frost on the ground. Even the chicken water had thick ice on it.
We lost a lot more of our garden plants with this deep freeze. They say the first risk of frost in this area is between Sept 11 to the 20th. But we already had 2 freezing nights in August which badly damaged our garden just before the harvest.
Now we only have one squash, some tomatoes and a zucchini plant left. The peas are nearing their end of life anyway. Our cabbage plants are alive but not yet growing very well.
Our garage sale went well enough. We sold enough stuff to reach half of our goal to get the wood stove installed for heat. We also greatly reduced the amount of extra stuff we had on hand. Now I will be able to clean out the garden and keep it maintained.

Another Deep Freeze In Summer & Garage Sale Going On
It froze hard last night. We are in the middle of our garage sale.
We have had the worst summer here in years according to the neighbors. We had 5 freezing nights here this summer so far.
Everyone is losing their gardens in this area while in town just 5 miles away they have very mild weather but say they had no summer at all this year.
We get temperature swings from day to night varying about 50 degrees. We had hot scorching days and freezing nights. While just a mile away by a lake they had a cooler summer with mild nights.
This is very odd weather this year.
We lost our first garden attempt to ground squirrels in the spring. So we bought plants and put them in after all danger of frost was supposed to be past and it froze that night.
We bought more plants and they froze now too.

Hauling Logs For Fire Wood ~ Melanie Canning Garden Harvest
Some friends came over and helped me find the damaged wires in the truck. We got it running and I started hauling loads of logs for fire wood. Melanie is canning our garden harvest.
The truck has been down for a while now because it was not getting fuel to the engine. Some friends came over and were messing with the wires. They had found some damaged wires but after three people were pawing around in the wires, we are not sure which ones they were. But the truck runs now.
It may have been a loose harness. But I cannot be sure.
The truck was also running rough and stalling out a lot so there was something wrong with the fuel. I had just filled it the last time I drove it so it was fresh gas when I parked the truck.
We put some additives and cleaners in the tank and filled it up to the top which only took 4 gallons. The truck smoothed out and ran well after that. So there was something in the gas tank which the truck did not like.
A neighbor had cut down a bunch of trees and a friend and I hauled three loads of the logs home and stacked them up. These will be good for next year because they are green. But they are cleaned and prepped so the wood is worth picking up I think.
It took us all day though with the three loads of wood and working on the truck in between. It was 5 pm by the time we were finished.
Then we fixed the mini bikes to go for a ride.
Melanie was busy all day canning produce from our garden harvest out in the porch kitchen. She had quite a setup out there.
She canned a mess of green beans and blueberries so far.

Preparing For A Garage Sale To Make Room For Baby
Melanie and I are putting together a garage sale to raise money and make room for the baby who is coming soon.
We cleaned out the garage and both houses. When we bought this property both houses and the garage were loaded. I mean fully loaded.
We had to clean them out before we could move our own things into them. The garage was the worst for me because there was a lot of garbage to dispose of. Rodents had made nests all through the garage.
I finally got it cleaned out enough for us to sell some of the extra stuff that we do not need.
We are setting up for the big sales this weekend during the holiday.
