Vogue 8804 - An Alternative Construction & Looking at Fabrics and Trims.
Hello!
This is the beginning of a series where I am going to show how to make this pattern in the non-couture way. Yes, I will be making it up in the Claire Shaffer method. But first, instead of a second plain mock up, I am going to make up this jacket as a trial run with fabrics, trims, linings, etc. Just to make sure it is right.
The finished product should be a nice, ready to wear out cardigan jacket. So many steps though. A lot of the steps I will demonstrate in this series will carry over to the final Claire Shaffer version, so in that way, it is a chance to polish those skills before the final fabric is cut.
Anyhow, I hope that you find this series interesting!

Sewing Simplicity 9098 Cynthia Rowley Dress, tips and review
Hello!
Welcome to Part 1 of this dress project. I'm using a sheer blue polyester fabric, and lining it with a bemburg rayon. For what looks like it should be a simple dress with no closures, the lining procedure is very tricky. It does have some fabulous full sleeves though!
I did find a new stay tape though and show you the etsy shop where I purchased it. This part focuses on pattern alteration, cutting out and general construction.
I hope you like it!
Thanks for watching!

Sewing Simplicity 8652 Pencil Skirt - Part 1 Pattern Adjustments and Markings
Hello! This pencil skirt pattern is a classic shape with double darts on both sides of front and back. I am making the view with the little pleated fan type kick vent. This skirt pattern is also going to serve as the basic fitted skirt pattern that I will be using to make the couture skirt so it is important that I get it fitted correctly at this stage. I am making adjustments for a petite size, shortening both the overall length and the dart length, as well as giving you an idea of how I try to make a quick fitting mock up to use when sizing a skirt for someone else.

Sewing Vogue 9255 - Vintage 1960's Bikini Halter Top
Hello!

In this episode I am creating a Bathing suit out of lightweight cotton canvas. That sounds like a mistake, but it actually turned out pretty cute. Sewing Vogue 9255 Part 1: Vintage 1960's Beach Cover-up
Hello! This pattern is so much fun! I am dividing the project into two separate videos, so here is the first. This beach cover-up is great. I encountered a sleeve that I chose to cut larger (to fit my arms) and showed a different way to adjust the pattern to make it fit. I also came across a mistake in the facing shoulder and had to make a choice how to go from there. I also lined the large pockets and stabilized the top to make it more secure. But, I think it turned out great. I hope you like it.
Stay tuned for the Bathing Suit!!!

Sewing Butterick 6882 - Chanel type Jacket
Hello!
If you are seeing this video it is a miracle... So many technical difficulties...
Anyhow, this jacket is sewn as a companion to my previous plaid retro styled dress using Butterick 6871 (also stay tuned for a hat video, hopefully).
This jacket used an unorthodox fabric for the body, a polyester ultra suede type from the home dec aisle. I ended up creating custom shoulder pads... but alas the video became corrupted and unusable... also I used shoulder cap padding to round out the sleeve head, and lots of bias tape. And finally topping it out by sewing in a gold chain at the hem.
Anyhow, it does look cute paired up with the intended dress and I will be showing you that in the next hat video too, hopefully.
Sometimes technology seems to be laughing hysterically at me.

Sewing Butterick 6871 - Retro styled dress
Hello!
This time I am doing something a little different, of course, and sewing a cute retro styled dress. I am making it up in a plaid fabric, so that means a lot of matching. Also, putting in an invisible zipper, while matching plaids successfully feels pretty good. There is some pattern modification to make sleeves that seem too narrow, and also adding a little extra ease into the hip area. I hope you like it!
