Sewing Simplicity 9780 - A yoked Gathered Dress in a Fun Fall Print #sewing #howtosew #sewingtutorial #fridaysews Hi Everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project. This dress was inspired by the fun fabric from African Prints Overload. It has a fall vibe to it and I think that the yoked pattern shows it off well. I did have to go off script from the instructions a few times. Once to fix a problem in the neckline opening, and later to construct the sleeves in an easier way. (At least to me) I didn't have enough fabric to make the sash so a belt will do the trick. This seemingly simple V-Neck dress can throw a couple curve balls. What I dealt with was a slight full bust adjustment to the front bodice piece and then adding a modesty panel for a "too low for comfort" neckline. Sewing Simplicity 9742 Dress but with lining and boning! #sewing #howtosew #sewingtutorial Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial. This time I am making up one of Simplicity's newer patterns in a light cotton calico, which amazingly corresponds to the suggested fabrics. But as I got into it, it seemed too light, so I have added lining and some light boning to define and support the bodice. I am really glad I did because the results are great. This is a long one because there are many steps (and a pattern instruction issue to be delt with) so grab a cup of something first. This time I am making a retro wrap dress, by request. So, because it is me there are a couple things I changed and wish I had changed but didn't. There is a low bust adjustment to make sure my darts aren't pointing to nothing... and also I made my own bias tape out of the same fabric instead of purchasing 1/4" double fold. About that bias tape, I sewed it on using what I think is a more trouble free method too.
