Sierra Leone - Mountain Lion
This video is a true story. The names have been changed to protect those concerned. We all chase after things that we want. Sometimes when we get what we want, we discover it isn’t what we wanted after all. A reminder that there’s no place like home.
MOUNTAIN LION by D.H. LAWRENCE
Climbing through the January snow, into the Lobo canyon.
Dark grow the spruce-trees, blue is the balsam, water sounds still unfrozen, and the trail is still evident.
Men! Two men! Men! The only animal in the world to fear!
They hesitate. We hesitate. They have a gun. We have no gun.
Then we all advance, to meet.
Two Mexicans, strangers, emerging out of the dark and snow and inwardness of the Lobo valley.
What are they doing here on this vanishing trail? What is he carrying? Something yellow. A deer?
“Qué tiene, amigo”? “León”.
He smiles, foolishly, as if he were caught doing wrong.
And we smile, foolishly, as if we didn't know. He is quite gentle and dark-faced.
It is a mountain lion, A long, long slim cat, yellow like a lioness. Dead.
He trapped her this morning, he says, smiling foolishly.
Lift up her face, Her round, bright face, bright as frost.
Her round, fine-fashioned head, with two dead ears;
And stripes in the brilliant frost of her face, sharp, fine dark rays, Dark, keen, fine rays in the brilliant frost of her face. Beautiful dead eyes. Hermoso es!
They go out towards the open; We go on into the gloom of Lobo.
And above the trees I found her lair, A hole in the blood-orange brilliant rocks that stick up, a little cave.
And bones, and twigs, and a perilous ascent.
So, she will never leap up that way again, with the yellow flash of a mountain lion's long shoot!
And her bright striped frost face will never watch any more, out of the shadow of the cave in the blood-orange rock, Above the trees of the Lobo dark valley-mouth! Instead, I look out.
And out to the dim of the desert, like a dream, never real;
To the snow of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the ice of the mountains of Picoris,
And near across at the opposite steep of snow, green trees motionless standing in snow, like a Christmas toy.
And I think in this empty world there was room for me and a mountain lion.
And I think in the world beyond, how easily we might spare a million or two of humans And never miss them.
Yet what a gap in the world, the missing white frost face of that slim yellow mountain lion!

CPTSD
CPTSD can be life changing and greatly affect mental health, state of wellbeing and quality of life if left unresolved. In many ways it is similar to PTSD but, since it is relatively new and there haven’t been many case studies to date, it can be difficult for practitioners to diagnose. The ‘C’ stands for complex, or some say childhood. Both seem fitting.

2 Pints Today Please Ernie
Milk men and milk ladies used to provide us with a valuable service throughout our communities. The milk arrived fresh every morning on our doorstep, along with other products. It was literally from farm to table and even more convenient than going to the supermarket. The milk float moved quietly and slowly and was battery operated and the milk came in glass bottles. It was green before green become a ‘thing’ and the good news is they are making a comeback. Good news.

Herbal Medicine in North and Central America
Traditional medicine in North and Central America was passed down from generation to generation with ancient wisdom. From Alaska, Canada and down to central America there is an abundance of natural medicine growing. Healers and Shamans would cure sickness through rituals and spiritual ceremonies for both individuals and communities and always with respect to Mother Nature and the Great Creator. At the turn of the last century this went into decline. Happily, natural herbs and medicinal plants for maintaining wellbeing are once again the prime choice for living healthily in the natural way.

I Spy With My Little Eye
Some say surveillance is a good thing if we have nothing to hide. That’s true, but we also need to have privacy. We don’t need to share all our personal thoughts, ideas and feelings with others. Some things are personal and belong to just us and nobody else. A personal computer is exactly that. The clue is in the name – it’s personal.

Leave the Past Where it Belongs
Taking things that don’t belong to you is stealing and is against the law, especially in the bible. Sometimes it’s governments and rulers of countries that do the stealing and the people pay the price for this. Some countries have behaved worse than others, but the past is the past and, in many cases, it is best left where it belongs.
